Bayelsa Queens boost squad ahead of CAF Women's Champions League

Bayelsa Queens’ head coach, Ogbonda Whyte, on Friday, June 6, 2025, confirmed that the team has started reinforcing its squad in preparation for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

Following their participation in the NWFL Super Six, Ogbonda noted that technical evaluations highlighted areas that required improvement.

According to him, this has prompted the club to begin recruiting top performers from rival NWFL teams.

“We are already on it,” Ogbonda said, emphasizing the need for the team to address key weaknesses identified during the Super Six competition.

He added that with the team preparing for continental challenges, it was essential to bring in the best players available to represent Nigeria.

“We have to get the best legs to represent Nigeria,” he explained.

Despite the ongoing recruitment efforts, Ogbonda voiced concerns over the reluctance of some clubs to release their players for the transfer.

“We are only appealing to NWFL clubs to agree to release the players.

“Most times, they don’t agree, but we’re still on it and begging them,” he said.

The head coach highlighted that these recruitment efforts were crucial to strengthening Bayelsa Queens, ensuring the team is competitive for the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The club’s aim is to build a strong and competitive squad that can perform well in Africa’s premier women’s club competition.

With a strong showing in the qualifiers, Bayelsa Queens hope to further establish Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s club football.

Bayelsa Queens’ recruitment strategy reflects a focused effort to bolster the team, ensuring they are prepared to challenge for top honors on the continental stage.
