Bayern President Plays Down Haaland Move Amid Manchester City Uncertainty

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has played down suggestions that the German champions could move for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland amid uncertainty surrounding the Premier League club’s financial case, insisting that his team already possesses an excellent attacking department.

Hainer, however, has not completely ruled out the possibility of Bayern revisiting their interest in the Norwegian forward in the coming years, leaving the door open to a potential future move.

The speculation surrounding Haaland’s future has intensified following developments in Manchester City’s financial case, which has raised questions about the club’s long-term prospects and the possibility of sanctions if its appeal fails.

City were recently found guilty of multiple breaches of Premier League financial regulations following proceedings before an independent commission. The club has challenged the findings, meaning the legal process remains an important factor in assessing the potential consequences for its sporting future.

Haaland, who signed a contract keeping him at Manchester City until 2034, has consequently been linked with several European heavyweights amid speculation about how severe sanctions could affect the club.

Bayern Munich have emerged in discussions because of their history of pursuing elite forwards and their previous interest in signing the Norwegian before he joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

However, Hainer has stressed that the Bundesliga champions are not short of attacking options at present.

Speaking to German broadcaster BILD, the Bayern president highlighted the quality of the club’s existing forwards when asked whether Haaland could become a transfer target if Manchester City faced relegation.

“We have an excellent attacking line with Kane, Olise, Díaz and the others. We scored more than 120 goals last season. So I think we are very well equipped in attack,” Hainer said.

His response underlined Bayern’s confidence in their current squad, which includes England captain Harry Kane, French winger Michael Olise and Colombian forward Luis Díaz.

Kane remains a central figure in Bayern’s attacking plans, having established himself as one of the club’s most productive players since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.

Olise and Díaz have also strengthened the team’s attacking options, giving head coach Vincent Kompany several alternatives across the forward line.

Despite his confidence in the current squad, Hainer did not completely dismiss the possibility of Bayern considering Haaland at a later stage.

“If we are talking about the future in a few years’ time, there will be a new situation and we will see,” he added.

The comments suggest that Bayern are not preparing an immediate move for the Manchester City striker, although the club could reassess its options when circumstances change.

Haaland’s long-term future at City remains a subject of speculation because of the possible implications of the club’s ongoing legal battle. Nevertheless, no departure has been confirmed, and his existing contract runs until 2034.

The Norwegian has continued to demonstrate his importance to City on the pitch. He scored during the club’s 3-0 Premier League victory over Liverpool on October 11, further underlining his role in the team’s attacking plans.

City’s performance against Liverpool also demonstrated that the financial controversy has not prevented the team from competing at the highest level while the legal process continues.

Any potential move for Haaland would present Bayern with considerable financial and sporting considerations. His transfer fee, salary expectations and contractual situation would all influence whether a deal could become realistic.

There is also the question of how Bayern would manage their attacking structure while Kane remains at the club. Although both forwards possess the ability to influence matches, recruiting another high-profile striker would require careful consideration of squad balance and long-term planning.

For now, Hainer’s comments indicate that Bayern are satisfied with their current attacking options and are not committing themselves to a transfer pursuit.

The possibility of a future move remains open, but it would depend on developments at Manchester City, Bayern’s squad requirements and the financial circumstances surrounding any potential deal.

Until then, Haaland remains a Manchester City player, and reports linking him with Bayern should be treated as transfer speculation rather than evidence of an agreement or imminent transfer.
