Former Big Brother Naija winner Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has issued a public apology following a false alarm she raised regarding the alleged arrest of her cameraman.
The reality TV star had earlier taken to social media to claim that men in uniform had taken away her cameraman along with his laptop bag. She also shared a video showing the vehicle involved and narrated the incident, sparking widespread concern online.
However, in a follow-up video, Phyna clarified that the situation had been resolved and confirmed that the individuals involved were officers of the Nigerian Police Force from the Ajah Police Station, not kidnappers as initially suggested.
According to her explanation, her cameraman was arrested after officers allegedly discovered a small quantity of a substance on him during the encounter. She also expressed appreciation to the police officers and the Divisional Police Officer for handling the matter professionally.
While some fans accepted her clarification and apology, others criticised her initial claims, urging public figures to verify information before making sensitive allegations online. The incident also sparked broader discussions on social media about responsibility and the spread of misinformation.
Some users reacted strongly to the development, with one commenter stating that Phyna often finds herself in controversies, while others compared her actions to past reality TV contestants who avoided similar public missteps.
As reactions continue to trail the incident, the BBNaija star’s apology has added to ongoing conversations about accountability and responsible social media use among celebrities.
