Former Big Brother Naija housemate Bella Okagbue has opened up about her breakup with fellow reality star Sheggz Olusemo, offering her perspective after several versions of their relationship story surfaced online.
Bella explained that she initially chose to remain quiet because she believed certain parts of their relationship were personal and should not be discussed publicly.
She said she genuinely loved Sheggz and defended their relationship because, at the time, she believed strongly in what they shared. According to her, she was also willing to give the relationship another opportunity because she believed people could change.
However, Bella said there is a difference between believing someone can change and waiting endlessly for that change to happen.
Addressing discussions about marriage and the engagement ring Sheggz reportedly purchased, Bella strongly rejected the idea that her desire to marry someone she loved amounted to desperation.
“Wanting marriage with someone you love is not desperation. Knowing when not to marry them is discernment,” she said.
The reality star explained that she eventually reached a point where promises were no longer enough. Instead, she began paying attention to repeated behaviour and patterns within the relationship.
Bella also suggested that some of the stories circulating online do not accurately represent what she experienced privately. She maintained that there are details she has deliberately chosen not to disclose and would only discuss them if and when she feels ready.
She acknowledged that she gave the relationship love, loyalty and another chance, but said those things cannot continue indefinitely when trust, respect and peace are missing.
According to Bella, she does not regret attempting to make the relationship work. However, she now believes that walking away can sometimes require greater courage than remaining in a relationship.
Her comments come amid renewed public interest in the former couple following Sheggz’s revelation that he had purchased an engagement ring before their relationship ended.
Sheggz previously said he had serious intentions of marrying Bella and believed they had a future together. He reportedly disclosed that their relationship eventually ended in January 2026 after efforts to reconcile were unsuccessful.
The breakup has also attracted attention following comments from fellow BBNaija star Phyna, who alleged that Sheggz had been abusive towards Bella. Phyna recounted an incident she claimed to have witnessed while visiting Bella, although the allegations remain disputed and should not be treated as established fact.
Bella and Sheggz met during the 2022 edition of Big Brother Naija and quickly became one of the show’s most talked-about couples. Their relationship continued after they left the reality show, with fans affectionately referring to them as “Shella.”
Over the years, the pair faced several breakup rumours, but their relationship repeatedly appeared to survive the speculation.
Their eventual separation became more noticeable after changes in their social media activity, including unfollowing each other and removing some photographs.
Bella’s latest statement has now added her perspective to the conversation, with the reality star making it clear that choosing to leave a relationship does not mean she never wanted it to succeed.
For Bella, the decision appears to be less about giving up on love and more about recognising when love alone is no longer enough to sustain a relationship.
