The Government of Finland has wielded the big stick by confiscating the assets of Mr. Simon Ekpa, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Government In Exile.
Ekpa is currently being detained on allegations of terror-related activities.
The gang leader of the Autopilot—a breakaway faction of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), was taken into custody alongside four others suspected to be his financiers by the Finnish authorities.
Assets of companies connected to them have been reportedly seized according to a Finnish tabloid, Yle.
The Finnish paper in the report, also revealed that Ekpa is being detained at the Kylmäkoski Prison, a maximum-security facility in Vanhamaantie, Akaa, Finland.
The prison, built in 1993, is known for housing some of the country’s most notorious offenders and was featured in the Netflix documentary series Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons in 2023.
Also recall that Mikko Laaksonen, Senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, confirmed that Ekpa will remain in detention as the Finnish legal system does not allow bail.
NewsBand reported that Ekpa was arrested in November. He faces charges of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent, including allegations of inciting violence and financing terrorism in Nigeria’s South-East region through social media.
