The Abia State Police Command in Nigeria has confirmed the abduction of Lawson Obasi, a prominent oil and gas dealer, and the killing of his driver and a police escort.

The incident occurred on March 4, while Obasi was traveling with his escorts from Arochukwu to Port Harcourt.

According to the police report, the convoy was ambushed at Mkap Jekere Ndoki by unidentified gunmen operating in a dark blue Sienna vehicle.

Despite the officers’ efforts to repel the attack, the gunmen took Obasi to an unknown destination, leaving his driver and another person dead.

The police have launched a search operation to rescue Obasi unhurt.

Tactical teams have been deployed to the scene, and the area is being combed thoroughly.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa has urged residents to remain calm and security-conscious, assuring them that intensive patrols have been activated in the area.

The police are appealing to the public to report any individuals with gunshot wounds or any information about the dark blue Sienna vehicle used in the abduction.

The Command’s emergency lines are available for tips and information.
