Why Kwara needs an equestrian tourism resort now- Gobir

0

Ilorin, Nigeria — As Kwara State continues to seek new drivers of economic growth beyond the public sector, entrepreneur Mohammed Kabir Gobir has unveiled the Kwara Horse Club and Resort, describing it as a strategic investment aimed at expanding tourism, creating jobs, and stimulating private-sector activity.

The equestrian and tourism facility, located in Ogele, Asa Local Government Area, was presented at an interface with the Guild of Digital Journalists (GDJ) in Ilorin on February 6, 2026. Gobir said the project was conceived to address gaps in Kwara’s leisure and tourism infrastructure while positioning Ilorin as a destination for sports-based tourism.

Situated close to the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, the resort is designed to host polo tournaments and, in the near future, horse racing events, a development expected to attract visitors, athletes, officials, and sponsors from across Nigeria and beyond. The club is already a registered member of the Nigeria Polo Federation, enabling it to participate in organised competitions and national polo activities.

Gobir explained that sports tourism offers significant economic advantages, including increased visitor spending, longer hotel stays, and higher demand for transportation, food services, and informal trade. He noted that integrated facilities like the Kwara Horse Club and Resort help generate multiplier effects that benefit surrounding communities and small businesses.

Beyond sports, the resort incorporates hospitality and lifestyle amenities, including hotel accommodation, restaurants, lounges, viewing decks, horseback riding services, and event spaces for social and corporate functions. According to Gobir, this ensures year-round activity rather than reliance on occasional sporting events.

The project has commenced operations with over 20 horses already in training, offering services such as horse riding, leasing, and professional stable care. Plans are also underway to establish a veterinary centre and a digital platform linking animal owners to veterinary services, strengthening animal health infrastructure in the state.

Gobir disclosed that the resort is expected to generate over 100 direct and indirect jobs across horse care, stable management, riding instruction, hospitality, administration, and facility maintenance, with training opportunities targeted at youths and women.

He added that the initiative would support Kwara’s equestrian heritage by supplying trained horses for cultural events such as the Ilorin Durbar, while promoting modern standards of horse welfare.

“The goal is to build a sustainable tourism and sports ecosystem that contributes meaningfully to Kwara’s economy,” Gobir said.

US Wants Ukraine, Russia to End War by June – Zelensky

Zelensky meets Trump on NATO sidelines, Putin to miss BRICS in Brazil

The United States has proposed that Ukraine and Russia bring their nearly four-year-old war to an end by June and has offered to host fresh peace talks between the two sides as early as next week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

Speaking to reporters in comments made public on Saturday, Zelensky disclosed that Washington had suggested a direct meeting between Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams in the United States, possibly in Miami, within the coming week.

“The United States has proposed for the first time that the two negotiating teams Ukraine and Russia meet in the United States, probably in Miami, in a week’s time,” Zelensky said.

“They say that they want to do everything by June.”

The proposal comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts by the administration of US President Donald Trump to push both Moscow and Kyiv toward a negotiated settlement of the conflict. In recent weeks, the United States has facilitated talks between the two sides in Abu Dhabi, including discussions that led to agreements on prisoner exchanges.

However, progress toward a broader peace deal has remained limited.

One of the main sticking points remains territorial control.

Russia currently occupies about 20 percent of Ukrainian territory and is reportedly demanding full control of the eastern Donetsk region as part of any agreement.

Ukraine, however, has rejected any deal that would leave it vulnerable to future Russian aggression.

Zelensky reiterated that Kyiv would not accept an agreement that fails to provide firm security guarantees against another invasion.

He also expressed concern that Ukraine could be sidelined in negotiations involving major powers.

The Ukrainian leader warned that he would not tolerate the United States and Russia reaching decisions behind Kyiv’s back, particularly on issues affecting Ukraine’s sovereignty.

In addition to territorial disputes, Zelensky said talks have stalled over the future of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian occupation since 2022.

According to him, both sides have so far failed to reach a “common understanding” on control of the facility.

Zelensky has repeatedly voiced frustration that Ukraine is being asked to make greater concessions than Russia in the push for peace, even as the war continues to exact a heavy toll on lives, infrastructure and the economy.

Despite the challenges, the latest US proposal signals an intensification of diplomatic pressure on both sides as Washington seeks to achieve a breakthrough in ending Europe’s largest conflict since World War II.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a significant change in its convention planning committee, replacing Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari as Chairman of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee.

This move comes just days after Uzodimma was initially appointed, and is seen as a major restructuring ahead of the party’s March 27-28, 2026 national convention.

Uzodimma has been reassigned as Treasurer, while the committee’s membership has been expanded from 73 to 90, including Senator Barry Mpigi and other senior party figures.

Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim is now Vice Chairman I, and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is Vice Chairman II.

In a statement signed by the APC National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, on Friday, the party said the committee was reconstituted following “further consultations with its leadership and national stakeholders”.

The abrupt change in the committee’s leadership has introduced fresh intrigue into the APC’s convention plans.

Meanwhile, the party has extended its nationwide electronic membership registration exercise to February 8, 2026, as part of efforts to broaden its support base and update its membership records.

Ward congresses are now fixed for February 18, with local government, state, zonal and national convention activities outlined in a revised timetable.

Man Charged for Threatening to Kill US Vice President

Vance says US is not at war with Iran

A federal grand jury in the United States has charged a 33-year-old man for allegedly threatening to kill Vice President JD Vance during his visit to Ohio in January, the US Department of Justice said on Friday.
The suspect, Shannon Mathre, a resident of Toledo, Ohio, is accused of making threats to take the life of and inflict bodily harm on the vice president, according to a statement issued by the Justice Department.
Prosecutors said Mathre allegedly stated that he intended to locate the vice president during the visit and kill him using an M14 automatic rifle. The statement did not specify where or to whom the alleged threat was made.
US Secret Service agents arrested Mathre on Friday following investigations into the threat.
The incident is the latest in a series of security-related concerns involving Vice President Vance. In early January, Vance disclosed that an individual had attempted to break into his Ohio residence by repeatedly hammering on the windows. The vice president and his family were not at home at the time, and a 26-year-old man was subsequently taken into custody, according to US media reports.
In a further development, the Justice Department revealed that investigators discovered multiple digital files containing child sexual abuse materials in Mathre’s possession while probing the alleged threat against the vice president.
Mathre made his initial court appearance before a US Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of Ohio on Friday. He remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for February 11.
The Justice Department said the investigation is ongoing.

Banditry: Sokoto approves road construction to boost security

Residents of Magarau, Sokoto State, have abandoned their homes after bandits killed the village head, chief Imam, and other community figures.

The attack, allegedly linked to notorious kingpin Bello Turji, left houses empty and property destroyed.

A video showed the deserted village, with the narrator pointing out damaged buildings and looted homes.

The incident is part of a series of violent attacks in Nigeria, especially in the North Central, Northwest, and Northeast regions.

In Kwara State, gunmen recently stormed the communities of Woro and Nuku, killing at least 162 people, according to the Red Cross and local authorities, with some estimates placing the death toll at about 170.

Homes and shops were burnt as residents fled into nearby bushland, in what has been described as one of the deadliest attacks of the year.

While in Kaduna State, 166 worshippers abducted during raids on churches in Kajuru Local Government Area in mid-January have reportedly regained their freedom, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirmed.

The kidnappings initially involved about 177 people, with 11 escaping shortly after the attacks.

Benue State has also witnessed organised attacks, resulting in several civilian deaths and severe disruption to rural communities.

Trump Says He Will Not Apologise for Post Depicting Obamas as Apes

0

President Donald Trump has said he will not apologise for sharing a social media post that included racist imagery portraying former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as cartoon apes, despite widespread bipartisan condemnation.

The post, which was removed late Thursday, featured a roughly one-minute video that largely promoted false claims of fraud in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Toward the end of the clip, the video abruptly transitioned to edited images of the Obamas superimposed on apes, accompanied by the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Tokens.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said he had only watched the beginning of the video before it was shared.

“I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine,” Trump said. “I looked in the first part and it was really about voter fraud and the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is.

Then I gave it to the people. Generally, they’d look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn’t, and they posted.”

He added that the video was taken down once the offensive content was discovered.

“We took it down as soon as we found out about it,” he said.

A White House official told NBC News that the post was shared in error by a staff member and was removed shortly before noon on Friday.

While Trump said he condemned the racist imagery, he insisted that he had not made a mistake and would not apologise.

“Of course” he condemns the racist content, Trump said, adding, “No, I didn’t make a mistake.”

The incident sparked immediate backlash from lawmakers across party lines.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, the Senate’s only Black Republican, described the post as “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House” and called for its immediate removal.

Trump later said he had spoken with Scott and claimed the senator “understood that 100%.”

Several other Republican lawmakers publicly criticised the post. Senator Pete Ricketts of Nebraska said that regardless of intent, the racist context was clear and that the White House should remove the content and issue an apology.

Representative Mike Lawler of New York described the video as “wrong and incredibly offensive,” urging that it be deleted with an apology.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt initially defended the video, characterising it as an internet meme portraying Trump as the “King of the Jungle” and Democrats as characters from The Lion King, while urging the media to “stop the fake outrage.”

However, criticism intensified after the imagery circulated, particularly as the incident occurred during Black History Month.

Additional lawmakers continued to press for an apology even after the video was removed.

Representative Mike Turner of Ohio called the imagery “offensive, heartbreaking, and unacceptable,” while Representative Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania described it as “a grave failure of judgment” unfit for anyone, especially the president.

Senator John Curtis of Utah criticised the delay in removing the post, calling it “blatantly racist and inexcusable.”

The controversy follows previous instances in which Trump has shared manipulated or AI-generated content targeting political opponents.

It also comes amid renewed attention on his repeated claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, alongside recent federal activity related to voter records in Georgia.

FG Launches App to Connect Nigerian Women to Finance, Skills

0

The Federal Government has launched a new digital platform aimed at expanding women’s economic inclusion across Nigeria.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the platform, known as the Happy Woman App, is a secure digital interface designed to connect Nigerian women to finance, skills development opportunities, markets, essential services and government support.

The launch coincided with President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of a major expansion of the Nigeria for Women Programme (NFWP), which now targets 25 million beneficiaries nationwide.

The expanded programme builds on a pilot phase implemented in six states, where more than one million women were reached through livelihood support and capacity-building initiatives.

Speaking at the presidential launch of the programme scale-up at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, said Nigeria’s development goals could not be achieved without placing women at the centre of national planning.

“A nation that relegates its women is a nation bound for implosion. We have long understood this truth,” the President said. “That is why this administration has not only placed women at the forefront of decision-making but has also entrusted them with leadership in causes that redeem our national promise.”

He noted that beyond their economic roles, women are central to family stability, community resilience and national productivity.

President Tinubu described the plan to reach 25 million women as ambitious but achievable, and called on the World Bank to strengthen its financing, technical support and innovation partnerships to support the nationwide scale-up of the programme.

He also highlighted the importance of technology in driving inclusion, stating that digital inclusion has become essential for effective service delivery and national competitiveness.

As part of the administration’s broader social agenda, the President designated 2026 as the Year of Social Development and Families in Nigeria, directing coordinated action across federal, state and local governments to strengthen social welfare systems.

The declaration follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed during President Tinubu’s official visit to Turkey in January, aimed at promoting family cohesion and improving social development frameworks in Nigeria.

In a related development, the Federal Government recalled that in 2024 it appealed to the World Bank to extend the deadline of the $100 million Nigeria for Women Project.

The request sought to shift the project’s deadline from March 29, 2024, to June 30, 2024, to allow for the completion of livelihood activities and the disbursement of unutilised funds under the livelihoods component.

The Nigeria for Women Programme, approved in June 2018 through a $100 million International Development Association credit, was designed to improve women’s livelihoods by supporting their participation in sustainable economic activities and business ventures.

The programme is structured around four core components: building social capital through Women Affinity Groups, supporting livelihoods through grants and business resources, fostering innovation and partnerships, and ensuring effective project management, monitoring and evaluation.

Officials say the launch of the Happy Woman App is expected to further strengthen the programme’s impact by providing women with easier access to opportunities, services and support nationwide.

Outrage as Zamfara Allocates ₦1bn to Build Ultramodern Cemeteries, Amid Insecurity

The Zamfara State Government has earmarked ₦1 billion in its 2026 budget for the construction of ultramodern cemeteries across the state’s 14 local government areas, a decision that has generated intense public debate amid ongoing security challenges.

The allocation, listed under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, is part of the state’s approved 2026 budget and is intended to provide modern burial facilities to meet what officials describe as a growing need for dignified interment spaces.

Zamfara, located in Nigeria’s North West, has in recent years remained one of the country’s most insecurity-affected states, with frequent attacks by armed groups often referred to locally as bandits.

These attacks have resulted in numerous deaths, mass displacements and widespread humanitarian challenges, particularly in rural communities.

Recent incidents include reported killings in Kyaram community, where at least five people were ambushed, and in Gwargwaba village in Bungudu Local Government Area, where four residents were killed in late January 2025.

Such attacks have contributed to recurring mass burials and heightened pressure on communities and local authorities.

Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration described the 2026 fiscal plan as a “Budget of Stability and Growth.”

The budget, initially proposed at ₦861.337 billion and later signed into law with slight adjustments, places emphasis on capital expenditure, which accounts for about 83 per cent of the total spending.

Key sectoral allocations include ₦87 billion for health, ₦86 billion for agriculture and ₦65 billion for education.

The government has also highlighted provisions aimed at strengthening security, improving infrastructure, modernising agriculture and expanding access to social services.

Despite these allocations, the ₦1 billion set aside for cemetery construction has drawn widespread criticism, particularly on social media, where many residents and commentators questioned the timing and priority of the expenditure.

Critics argue that the funds could be better directed toward security-related interventions such as intelligence gathering, community policing, surveillance technology and support for security agencies to prevent further loss of life.

Others have raised concerns about unmet needs in healthcare, education and food security, suggesting that resources should be channelled toward addressing immediate humanitarian and developmental challenges.

As of the time of reporting, the Zamfara State Government has not issued a detailed public explanation specifically addressing the cemetery allocation.

Officials have, however, reiterated that the overall budget prioritises security enhancement, social welfare and economic development.

The ₦1 billion provision for ultramodern cemeteries has since become a focal point in public discourse, highlighting broader questions about governance priorities, resource allocation and the ongoing struggle to restore peace and stability in Zamfara State.

Christian Genocide: US Lawmakers Slam Tinubu’s Govt Over $9m Lobbying Deal

0

United States lawmakers have criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over a reported $9 million lobbying contract in Washington, alleging that it was aimed at downplaying the scale of religious violence in Nigeria, particularly against Christian communities.

The criticism emerged on Wednesday during a joint congressional hearing of the House Subcommittee on Africa and the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, titled “Defending Religious Freedom Around the World.”

The hearing focused on global threats to religious freedom, with Nigeria featuring prominently in the discussions.

Testimony was taken from former US Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback, and a former chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Dr Stephen Schneck.

Lawmakers expressed concern over what they described as persistent violence in Nigeria and questioned the federal government’s response to the crisis.

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Rep. Chris Smith, defended the United States’ October 2025 decision to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act, describing the move as “long overdue.”

Smith said he was disturbed by reports that the Nigerian government had hired Washington-based lobbying firm DCI Group at a cost of $9 million, reportedly paid at $750,000 per month, to counter the CPC designation.

He also raised concerns about a separate $120,000-per-month contract allegedly entered into by a Nigerian billionaire with consulting firm Valcour to influence the US Congress and Executive Branch.

“I am deeply concerned that Nigeria has hired the lobbying firm, DCI Group, to the tune of $9 million,” Smith said, adding that such efforts appeared designed to present the crisis as less severe than it is.

He argued that the lobbying campaigns risked obscuring the realities faced by communities affected by religious violence.

During the hearing, lawmakers also discussed the broader implications of US policy toward Nigeria.

One lawmaker noted that despite stated concerns about religious freedom, the United States had reduced hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign assistance to Nigeria, including programmes supporting faith leaders and conflict-affected communities.

Questions were also raised about the effectiveness of recent US military actions in Nigeria.

One representative argued that airstrikes carried out in Sokoto State around Christmas had not produced tangible improvements for affected communities, despite repeated claims by US President Donald Trump that Christians in Nigeria were facing genocide.

In his testimony, Dr Schneck described Nigeria’s security crisis as complex and multifaceted, citing terrorism by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), farmer-herder conflicts, banditry, organised crime and mass displacement.

He also criticised what he described as weak governance, saying the state had struggled to provide basic security and justice to its citizens.

The hearing also examined whether the CPC designation alone was sufficient. Rep. Jefferson Shreve questioned its practical impact, prompting Brownback to argue that such a designation must be supported by sanctions and other concrete measures to be effective.

“This government has not given us any reason to trust them,” Brownback said, reflecting the scepticism expressed by several lawmakers during the session.

President Trump has repeatedly claimed that Christians in Nigeria are facing genocide and has previously threatened military action in response.

The Nigerian government has consistently rejected those claims, acknowledging serious security challenges but maintaining that the violence does not amount to genocide and is not targeted at any single religious group.

The hearing underscored growing scrutiny in Washington over Nigeria’s handling of insecurity and religious violence, as well as renewed debate over the role of lobbying, diplomacy and sanctions in shaping US policy toward Africa’s most populous nation.

Natural Ways to Last Longer in Bed: Expert-Backed Tips Without Drugs or Pills

0

Sexual performance and stamina are common concerns for many men, yet the conversation around them is often clouded by myths, pressure, and overreliance on drugs or supplements. Health experts say lasting longer in bed does not necessarily require pills. In many cases, simple lifestyle changes, mental adjustments, and natural techniques can significantly improve sexual endurance and satisfaction.

Here are proven, drug-free tips that can help men last longer in bed naturally.

1. Manage Anxiety and Performance Pressure

One of the leading causes of early ejaculation is anxiety. Worrying too much about performance can trigger tension and reduce control. Experts advise staying present during intimacy, focusing on connection rather than “performance,” and avoiding self-pressure. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and mindfulness can help calm the nerves.

2. Practice the Start-Stop Technique

This method involves pausing sexual stimulation when arousal becomes too intense, then resuming once control is regained. Over time, this helps improve awareness of arousal levels and strengthens control during intercourse.

3. Strengthen Pelvic Floor Muscles

Pelvic floor exercises, commonly known as Kegel exercises, are not only for women. For men, these exercises strengthen the muscles responsible for ejaculation control. Regular practice has been shown to improve stamina and overall sexual function.

4. Slow Down and Change Rhythm

Rushing intercourse often leads to reduced control. Slowing down, varying positions, and taking short pauses can help prolong the experience. Experts emphasize that intimacy is not a race, and pacing plays a major role in endurance.

5. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Overall health directly affects sexual performance. Regular exercise improves blood circulation, while a balanced diet supports hormone balance. Reducing alcohol intake, quitting smoking, and getting enough sleep also contribute to better stamina and sexual confidence.

6. Improve Communication With Your Partner

Open communication reduces pressure and builds emotional intimacy. Discussing preferences, pacing, and comfort levels with a partner can ease anxiety and lead to a more satisfying experience for both parties.

7. Stay Physically Active

Cardiovascular exercises such as walking, jogging, or swimming help improve endurance and energy levels. A healthy heart and good blood flow are essential for optimal sexual performance.

A Health-Focused Approach

Medical professionals stress that lasting longer in bed is not solely about duration but about mutual satisfaction and comfort. While pills may promise quick fixes, natural methods address the root causes and promote long-term sexual health.

Men experiencing persistent difficulties are encouraged to consult a qualified healthcare provider, as underlying medical conditions may sometimes be involved. However, for many, adopting these natural strategies can lead to noticeable improvement without the need for drugs or pills.

Diaspora Group Pledges N10m to Revive Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital

0

The Ora-Ekpen Association, a socio-cultural organisation of Owan indigenes in the diaspora, has reaffirmed its commitment to the comprehensive rehabilitation, restoration, modernisation and sustained investment in the Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The association made this known in a statement jointly signed by its National President, Mr. Desmond Alufohai, and National Secretary, Mrs. Evelyn Aremu, announcing an initial donation of ₦10 million to kick-start the intervention.

According to the statement, the funds will be deployed for the immediate procurement of critical items, including solar power panels and high-powered fans for patient wards, aimed at improving comfort and ensuring uninterrupted basic services.

The association added that the donation will also cover the purchase of television sets for each ward, adequate furnishings for doctors’ and nurses’ quarters, washing machines, and essential medical supplies to enhance service delivery.

Ora-Ekpen Association lamented that the current state of the Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital reflects years of neglect and chronic underinvestment, resulting in deteriorating infrastructure and poor working conditions.

It noted that the facility is plagued by dilapidated buildings, obsolete and insufficient medical equipment, irregular electricity and water supply, poor sanitation, and severe shortages of essential medicines and diagnostic tools.

“These deficiencies have significantly constrained the hospital’s capacity to provide safe, effective and dignified care to the community it serves,” the statement said.

It explained that the prevailing conditions not only compromise patient safety but also erode public confidence in the healthcare system and place immense physical and emotional strain on healthcare workers.

“Beyond an infrastructure challenge, the situation constitutes a broader public health and social equity concern, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive rehabilitation, modernisation and sustained investment to restore the hospital to the minimum standards expected of a modern health facility,” the association stated.

The group said its intervention is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare while restoring community pride and confidence in the facility.

The association also commended the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, for donating a 30KVA generator to the hospital, noting that the gesture would significantly support the delivery of essential health services.

It further emphasised the shared responsibility of governments, institutions and communities in safeguarding public health as a foundation for resilient and sustainable societies.

“Ora-Ekpen Association USA, Inc. calls on all stakeholders, particularly sons and daughters of Ora, community leaders, public officials and well-meaning partners, to support this vital healthcare institution,” the statement appealed.

It stressed that collective action and sustained commitment are critical to ensuring that the Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital can once again fulfil its mandate as a centre for healing, prevention and community well-being.

The association also urged government at all levels to renew and sustain investment in healthcare infrastructure, strengthen the health workforce, and improve access to essential medicines and vaccines.

Ora-Ekpen Association USA, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt organisation made up of descendants of Ora communities residing in the United States and Canada. The association is non-political and non-religious, and is dedicated to philanthropic initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of the Ora people.

Ora-Ekpen comprises six clans—Ohia, Ovbiokhuarin, Evbiobe (Sabongidda-Ora), Uhonmora, Oke-Ora and Eme-Ora—located in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Sabongidda-Ora General Hospital was shut down following the failure of the Adams Oshiomhole-led administration to complete its rehabilitation.

As a result, residents of Ora and neighbouring communities in need of medical care are forced to travel long distances to Auchi and Irrua to access healthcare services.

Daddy Freeze Claims Men Need 21 Ejaculations Monthly to Reduce Prostate Cancer Risk, Sparks Online Debate

0

Popular Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, has ignited widespread debate on social media after asserting that men need to ejaculate at least 21 times a month to reduce their risk of developing prostate cancer.

The veteran broadcaster made the claim during a recent livestream conversation with content creator Caterefe, where discussions centered on men’s health and lifestyle choices. Eyes Of Lagos reports that the remark quickly drew attention after a clip from the session went viral across various platforms.

According to Daddy Freeze, although he does not advocate masturbation, frequent ejaculation could potentially lower a man’s risk of prostate cancer.

“I won’t encourage masturbation, but if a man doesn’t ejaculate up to 21 times monthly, he could be setting himself up for possible prostate cancer,” he said during the livestream.

The statement immediately triggered mixed reactions from social media users, health enthusiasts, and medical professionals, many of whom questioned the scientific accuracy and medical basis of the claim.

Reacting to the viral clip, a social media user identified as Pharm. Greatman challenged the assertion, stressing that there is no medically approved number of ejaculations guaranteed to prevent prostate cancer.

“The claim that men must ejaculate 21 times a month to avoid prostate cancer is not true. There is no fixed number that guarantees protection. Some studies suggest that more frequent ejaculation may be linked to a slightly lower risk, but this is only an association, not a rule or treatment,” he wrote.

Another user, Rhine_sto, also cautioned against oversimplifying scientific research, warning that reducing complex medical findings to numerical instructions could fuel misinformation.

“Turning nuanced research into a numeric command is how misinformation spreads. There are studies suggesting a correlation between frequent ejaculation and a lower risk of prostate cancer, but it’s not a medical prescription, and 21 times a month is not a rule doctors give patients,” the user stated.

Offering a broader perspective, another commenter, Hunter_Guide1, referenced a 2016 Harvard University study involving over 32,000 men. The study suggested that men who ejaculated more frequently had about a 20 to 31 percent lower risk of developing prostate cancer compared to those who ejaculated four to seven times monthly.

However, he emphasized that the research established correlation rather than causation and did not present ejaculation frequency as a guaranteed preventive measure.

He further noted that prostate cancer risk is influenced by several factors, including age, genetics, family history, lifestyle habits, and overall health. He advised men to prioritize evidence-based preventive measures such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, avoiding smoking, and undergoing routine medical check-ups.

APC Appoints Masari, Drops Uzodimma As Convention Chairman

DDM News

0

(DDM) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has carried out a major leadership reshuffle within its 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee.

DDM gathered that former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has been appointed as the new chairman of the committee.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who was previously designated to lead the body, has been reassigned as treasurer.

In his new role, Uzodimma will oversee financial management and ensure accountability for convention funds.

The party also expanded the committee from 73 members to 90, bringing in more voices from across its national structure.

Newly inducted members include Senator Barry Mpigi and other prominent APC stakeholders, strengthening the team’s national representation.

According to party officials, the adjustments reflect a revised structure that takes zoning considerations and strategic goals into account.

The reconstitution is aimed at promoting inclusiveness while aligning the committee with APC’s political priorities ahead of the convention.

Officials explained that the leadership changes are procedural and intended to improve efficiency and coordination as preparations intensify.

Masari, as chairman, is expected to lead the planning process and ensure smooth execution of convention activities.

Uzodimma’s financial oversight role is designed to guarantee transparency and proper fund management during the event.

The expanded committee membership underscores the party’s commitment to balanced regional and stakeholder representation in its decision-making process.

Observers say the reshuffle could also be a strategic move to consolidate unity and prevent internal friction ahead of the national convention.

APC leaders described the changes as necessary to strengthen internal organisation and deliver a well-structured convention.

The party stressed that the adjustments do not reflect any political demotion but rather a realignment of roles for operational effectiveness.

Political analysts note that such reshuffles are common in Nigerian parties to address evolving demands and maintain cohesion.

With Masari at the helm and Uzodimma managing finances, APC believes the committee is better equipped to handle the logistical and political complexities of the convention.

The restructured team is tasked with ensuring that all zonal, regional, and stakeholder interests are considered in the planning process.

Party insiders say the moves signal APC’s determination to present a unified front and avoid internal disputes during the national gathering.

The changes have been welcomed by some members who see them as a step toward inclusiveness, efficiency, and stronger national coordination.

Preparations for the 2026 National Convention are now expected to proceed with clearer leadership and enhanced operational capacity.

APC leaders insist that the success of the convention is critical to shaping the party’s direction and strategy for the upcoming electoral cycles.

Chelsea New Signing Sarr Spotted Training Ahead Wolves Clash

DDM News

(DDM) – Chelsea have officially welcomed Mamadou Sarr back to first-team training ahead of their Premier League fixture against Wolves.

DDM gathered that the young centre-back was recalled from his loan spell at Strasbourg on transfer deadline day earlier this week.

It is the first time Sarr has been seen at Cobham since returning, marking his reintegration into Chelsea’s squad.

Coaches and teammates reportedly observed him participating fully in training drills, signaling readiness for matchday action.

Although it is unclear whether he will start, expectations are high that he could feature in tomorrow’s game.

Chelsea face bottom-of-the-table Wolves in a 3pm kickoff, a match analysts say is crucial for maintaining pressure on the top clubs.

The Blues are aiming to secure maximum points to strengthen their bid for a Champions League spot this season.

Observers noted that Sarr displayed focus and composure in training, adapting quickly to Chelsea’s defensive patterns.

At just 21, Sarr is regarded as a promising defender with physicality, tactical awareness, and composure on the ball.

His presence in training boosts Chelsea’s backline options as they prepare for a congested schedule ahead.

Coaching staff are expected to assess his fitness and match readiness before finalising the squad list.

Chelsea fans expressed excitement on social media, anticipating Sarr’s first competitive appearance for the club this season.

In recent windows, Chelsea and Strasbourg have completed 12 transfers between them, raising eyebrows across football circles.

The frequent loan moves and recalls reflect strategic planning but also cause debate about player development pathways.

Sarr’s return is seen as a strategic reinforcement, potentially enhancing Chelsea’s defensive depth and long-term squad stability.

The centre-back’s performance at Strasbourg reportedly impressed Chelsea scouts, prompting the early recall.

Analysts suggest Sarr could become a key figure in defensive rotations and provide cover for injuries or suspensions.

Coaches continue to integrate him into tactical drills, ensuring he understands Chelsea’s defensive system.

Tomorrow’s game against Wolves offers an ideal low-pressure opportunity to test his abilities in a competitive Premier League setting.

Chelsea remain confident in their squad depth, aiming for a strong finish in the league while balancing domestic and European commitments.

Fans will watch closely to see whether Sarr makes an immediate impact or eases gradually into first-team action.

The return of Sarr adds excitement and optimism for Chelsea supporters as they chase important points in the closing stages of the season.

Real Madrid Offers Swap Deal For Chelsea Midfielder Fernandez

DDM News

(DDM) – Real Madrid have reportedly submitted a bold proposal to Chelsea aimed at securing Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

DDM gathered that the Spanish giants are prepared to offer both cash and a high-profile player in an attempt to tempt the Premier League side.

The deal reportedly includes around €60 million in addition to French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, considered a valuable asset to bridge negotiations.

Enzo Fernandez remains one of Real Madrid’s top targets ahead of the 2026 season due to his influence and versatility in midfield.

Despite being central to Chelsea’s squad, the 25-year-old has repeatedly been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid view him as a long-term solution to strengthen the heart of their midfield.

Reports from Spain indicate that the offer is part of Madrid’s renewed pursuit after failing to sign Fernandez earlier in his career.

Chelsea, however, are reportedly unmoved by the initial proposal and demand a stronger offer reflecting his importance to the team.

The Premier League club recently won the Club World Cup, further reducing the appetite to part with one of their key players.

Fernandez is still under contract at Chelsea for more than six years, with speculation suggesting he may extend on improved terms.

Sources say the midfielder is committed to Chelsea’s long-term project and could remain a cornerstone of the squad.

Chelsea’s head coach has praised Fernandez’s impact, noting his ability to play multiple midfield roles.

He described Fernandez as a rare talent capable of performing as a deep-lying playmaker, box-to-box midfielder, or advanced creator.

Real Madrid hope the combination of cash and Camavinga will persuade Chelsea to reconsider, but there has been no indication of movement.

Analysts note that any deal for Fernandez would require careful negotiation given his long-term value and tactical importance.

For now, Chelsea appear determined to resist Real Madrid’s advances and retain the Argentine for the upcoming season.

Observers say the saga highlights the growing market value of versatile midfielders in European football.

Fans continue to watch closely as speculation grows, but Chelsea’s stance suggests Fernandez will remain at Stamford Bridge.

Madrid may return with improved terms, but the Premier League club remains firm on protecting their key assets.

The outcome of the potential deal will likely influence future negotiations for high-profile midfielders across Europe.

The football world continues to monitor developments closely as both clubs navigate a complex transfer market.

Clerics Blame Kanu Jailing As Kwara Violence Sparks Outrage

DDM News

(DDM) – Nigerian religious leaders have reacted strongly to recent deadly attacks in parts of Kwara State and renewed debate about national security.

DDM gathered that a group called the Concerned Igbo Ministers’ Commission linked the tragedy to earlier warnings by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

The clerics said many people died in coordinated attacks on rural communities in the state within recent days.

Local sources and humanitarian observers reported that armed groups carried out the assaults on several villages.

Security agencies have not released a final official casualty figure, but reports indicate very high losses.

The ministers argued that Kanu had repeatedly warned about extremist violence spreading toward southern Nigeria.

They claimed authorities ignored those warnings and instead focused on prosecuting the separatist leader for his broadcasts.

Reverend Tony Uzor, who speaks for the commission, said the government punished speech more quickly than it stopped violence.

He criticised what he described as uneven law enforcement between violent actors and political agitators.

The group insisted that Kanu used words and media platforms to express his views about national security risks.

They argued that courts later convicted him on terrorism-related charges connected to incitement and separatist messaging.

A Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment in 2025 after a long legal process.

Government prosecutors maintained that his broadcasts encouraged unrest and threatened national unity.

Kanu and his supporters have continued to challenge the charges and the broader handling of his case.

IPOB has long pushed for the independence of Biafra, a position that remains highly controversial in Nigeria.

Nigeria fought a civil war between 1967 and 1970 after a previous Biafran secession attempt.

That war left deep historical memories that still shape politics and security discussions today.

The clerics said present-day violence requires proactive policing, intelligence sharing, and community protection.

They urged federal and state authorities to strengthen early-warning systems in vulnerable rural areas.

They also called for better support for victims and displaced families affected by insecurity.

Nigerian officials have acknowledged security challenges and promised stronger responses to armed groups.

The federal government has deployed security forces to several hotspots in recent years to curb attacks.

Analysts say Nigeria faces multiple threats, including banditry, communal clashes, and extremist cells.

Civil society groups often demand faster justice for victims and more transparent investigations.

The Kwara incidents have again highlighted gaps between warnings, prevention, and rapid response.

The clerics warned that public trust weakens when citizens feel unprotected during repeated attacks.

They asked leaders to prioritise human life and treat credible security alerts with urgency.

They concluded that Nigeria needs both justice and prevention to reduce cycles of violence.

U.S. cash lifeline sparks fierce global HIV fight debate

DDM News

(DDM) – The United Nations has praised the United States for approving a huge funding package to strengthen the global HIV response.

DDM gathered that UNAIDS welcomed the decision and described it as a lifeline for vulnerable communities.

The agency said the new law releases about six billion dollars for HIV programmes across many partner nations.

Lawmakers in Washington approved the package after a period marked by aid reductions and funding uncertainty.

UNAIDS leaders said the decision restores momentum in a fight that has lasted more than four decades.

Executive Director Winnie Byanyima publicly thanked the U.S. president and Congress for the renewed commitment.

She said the investment will save lives and stabilise treatment for millions already receiving medicines.

She added that strong funding helps clinics maintain testing, counselling, and prevention campaigns in high-burden countries.

The package sets aside most of the money for bilateral HIV support under the America First Global Health Strategy.

The law directs billions toward country programmes that deliver drugs, laboratory services, and community outreach.

It also assigns over a billion dollars to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The Global Fund works with governments to finance large-scale disease control and health system improvements.

Lawmakers included additional funds to support UNAIDS coordination, data analysis, and technical assistance.

UNAIDS coordinates the HIV response across eleven United Nations agencies working in health and development.

These agencies include UNICEF, WHO, and the World Food Programme, which support affected families and communities.

Health experts say coordinated action remains essential because HIV still affects millions worldwide every year.

They note that treatment advances now allow many people with HIV to live long and productive lives.

However, experts warn that prevention gaps and stigma still drive new infections in several regions.

Global health officials continue to promote the 95-95-95 targets as a roadmap to end AIDS.

Those targets push countries to diagnose most people with HIV and provide sustained treatment.

They also aim to achieve viral suppression so treated individuals stay healthy and reduce transmission.

The United States has funded international HIV efforts since the early years of the epidemic.

Major initiatives like PEPFAR previously transformed access to antiretroviral therapy in low-income countries.

Researchers credit U.S. support with helping to cut AIDS-related deaths dramatically since the 2000s.

Advocates say stable financing allows countries to plan long-term prevention and care strategies.

Some civil society groups still urge wealthy nations to increase contributions as needs remain high.

They argue that economic shocks and conflicts can disrupt treatment and threaten hard-won gains.

UNAIDS said it will use the new funds to guide countries with data-driven and community-focused approaches.

The agency pledged to work closely with governments and local groups to maximise every dollar.

Officials expressed hope that the decision will inspire other donors to sustain global solidarity.

They insist that ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030 remains achievable with shared effort.

(DDM) – Professor Patrick Utomi’s 70th birthday has drawn public attention across Nigeria, with political actors and civic groups reflecting on his decades of intellectual and democratic engagement.

Evan Benok Nwanji, the state chairman of COPDEM, led one of the notable tributes, praising Utomi’s lifelong commitment to values, reform, and nation-building.

Nwanji delivered his message to the public on Friday in Asaba while speaking with the state COPDEM Media and Publicity Directorate

He described Utomi as a scholar and public thinker who consistently places conscience above convenience in national affairs.

He said Utomi’s life shows how leadership can combine knowledge, ethics, and service to society.

Professor Utomi has remained a visible figure in Nigeria’s public discourse for over forty years.

He built his reputation as a political economist, management expert, and policy advocate.

He studied mass communication at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, before advancing to business and policy studies later in his career.

He went on to teach and mentor at the Lagos Business School, influencing many professionals in business and governance.

He also founded the Centre for Values in Leadership, which promotes ethical leadership in public and private institutions.

Through books, lectures, and mentoring, he has encouraged Nigerians to connect leadership with responsibility.

Nwanji said COPDEM recognises Utomi as a voice that challenges leaders to think beyond personal gain.

He noted that Utomi often speaks about accountability, transparency, and citizen-centered governance.

Utomi has also participated directly in politics, contesting offices and contributing to policy debates.

Analysts say his campaigns frequently emphasized ideas and reforms rather than political drama.

Supporters argue that even when elections did not favor him, his ideas influenced public conversations.

Nwanji highlighted Utomi’s courage in speaking on sensitive national issues.

He said the professor shows calm discipline in manner but firmness in conviction.

He credited Utomi with mentoring younger leaders without seeking praise.

He added that COPDEM believes Nigeria needs more value-driven leadership to strengthen democracy.

Observers note that Utomi regularly writes and speaks on economic reform, social responsibility, and governance.

They say his arguments often connect national progress with moral leadership.

Many associates describe him as a quiet mentor whose private advice shapes decisions behind the scenes.

Tributes from colleagues portray him as thoughtful and consistent.

Nwanji expressed personal gratitude for Utomi’s example and friendship.

He offered prayers for Utomi’s continued strength and clarity of mind.

He wished him greater impact in the years ahead.

Political watchers say milestone birthdays like this often spark reflection on national leadership culture.

They note that Utomi’s journey blends academia, business, and civic activism.

Supporters say his legacy rests on the values he promotes as much as the roles he has held.

At 70, Utomi still participates in national conversations through writing and speaking.

His admirers say his message remains relevant in a changing Nigeria.

They argue that his life encourages leaders to choose service over comfort.

For many Nigerians, his story represents the belief that ideas and integrity can shape a nation’s future.

Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has addressed rumors of a feud with fellow actress Genevieve Nnaji, describing the speculations as largely exaggerated and fueled by fans rather than any real conflict.

In a recent statement, Omotola revealed that the so-called quarrel never truly existed, saying, “Na the fans start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel.” She explained that while social media and public discussions often blow small misunderstandings out of proportion, she and Genevieve have maintained a professional and cordial relationship behind the scenes.

Omotola emphasized that the Nigerian entertainment industry thrives on collaboration, mutual respect, and camaraderie among its top actors, and she sees no reason for personal rivalries to overshadow the work they do. She also noted that rumors of conflicts between celebrities are often more reflective of fan dynamics and online speculation than reality.

The actress urged fans to be more discerning when reading into stories and to celebrate the achievements of Nollywood stars rather than pit them against one another. Omotola’s comments come as a reminder that not every trending headline reflects the truth, and that long-standing friendships and professional respect often remain intact despite public speculation.

Her remarks have been widely appreciated by fans who view her response as a mature and balanced approach to handling celebrity rumors, highlighting the importance of clarity and perspective in the age of social media gossip.

The United States has strongly condemned the deadly attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the violence as “horrific” amid conflicting reports over the number of casualties.

While the Nigerian Police Force has put the death toll at 75, local accounts and international observers suggest the number of victims is significantly higher. The International Committee of the Red Cross has reported that at least 162 people may have been killed, with search and rescue efforts still ongoing.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, the US Mission in Nigeria said it was deeply troubled by the scale of the violence and the uncertainty surrounding the number of casualties.

“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara State in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for,” the statement said. “We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence.”

The US also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s response to the attack, including his directive for the deployment of additional security forces to the affected areas.

“We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice,” the statement added.

The US reaction follows similar condemnations from the United Nations and the Republic of Türkiye.

In response to the attacks, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama and approved the establishment of a new military command to oversee security operations in the area. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also directed the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence units to Kaiama and neighbouring communities to restore calm.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said troops operating under Operation Savannah Shield had been deployed to deter further violence, adding that security personnel were already on the ground.

Authorities say investigations into the attacks are ongoing, as efforts continue to stabilise the affected communities and account for missing residents.

US Asks Citizens to Leave Iran Immediately as Trump Mulls Airstrike

0

The United States has issued an urgent warning advising its citizens in Iran to leave the country immediately, citing escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran and growing security risks.

In an advisory released on Thursday by the Virtual US Embassy in Iran, American nationals were urged to prepare departure plans that do not rely on assistance from the US government, warning that unrest and travel disruptions could worsen.

“Leave Iran now. Have a plan for departing Iran that does not rely on US government help,” the advisory stated.

The warning comes amid heightened strain in US–Iran relations, which have remained hostile since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution and the subsequent US embassy hostage crisis.

Tensions have intensified in recent weeks following threats by US President Donald Trump to take military action against Iran over its crackdown on widespread protests that began in late December 2025.

Trump has also announced the deployment of what he described as an “armada” to the Gulf region, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and its escort vessels, which have been stationed there since late January.

According to the advisory, US citizens in Iran should expect continued internet outages and prepare alternative means of communication.

Americans were advised, if it is safe to do so, to consider leaving Iran by land through neighbouring countries such as Armenia or Turkey.

The advisory also warned of possible flight cancellations and disruptions occurring with little notice, urging travellers to check directly with airlines for updates.

For those unable to leave, the US government advised finding a secure location, stocking essential supplies such as food, water and medication, avoiding demonstrations, keeping a low profile, and remaining alert to their surroundings.

“Monitor local media for breaking news. Be prepared to adjust your plans. Keep your phone charged and maintain communication with family and friends to inform them of your status,” the advisory said. It also encouraged US nationals to enrol in the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates.

Washington further advised US-Iranian dual nationals to depart Iran using Iranian passports, noting that Iran does not recognise dual citizenship and treats such individuals solely as Iranian citizens.

The advisory warned that US nationals face a significant risk of questioning, arrest or detention in Iran, adding that merely showing a US passport or demonstrating links to the United States could be grounds for detention by Iranian authorities.

It also cautioned that the US government cannot guarantee the safety of its citizens who attempt to exit Iran through land borders.

The warning underscores growing international concern over Iran’s internal situation and the broader risk of confrontation between Tehran and Washington.
