Police Arrest Landlady Over Alleged Poisoning of Tenant’s Three-Year-Old Child

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, over the alleged poisoning of a three-year-old boy in the Omifon community of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the victim is the son of the suspect’s tenant.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., following a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat. The suspect, who is the family’s landlady, allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

DSP Jimoh said shortly after ingesting the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he received urgent medical treatment.

“The incident followed a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect,” Jimoh said. “The suspect allegedly administered a liquid substance believed to be poisonous to the child.”

He added that police detectives, acting on intelligence, swiftly moved to arrest the suspect. During the investigation, officers also recovered the liquid substance suspected to be poison.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody and has made statements to investigators, according to the police spokesperson.

DSP Jimoh said a full investigation has commenced and assured that the case would be charged to court upon the conclusion of police inquiries.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that anyone found culpable of criminal acts is brought to justice.
