(DDM) — The Network of Civil Society Organisations in Borno State has declared its commitment to holding government authorities at all levels accountable while safeguarding the interests of residents across the state.

The coalition made this position known amid growing concerns over governance, service delivery, and the need for increased transparency in public administration within Borno State.

According to the group, civil society organisations play a critical role in ensuring that elected officials and public institutions remain responsive to the needs and expectations of the people they serve.

The network emphasized that its mission includes monitoring government policies, tracking public spending, and advocating for the rights and welfare of citizens, particularly in a state that has faced prolonged security and humanitarian challenges.

Leaders of the coalition stated that their efforts would focus on promoting good governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and encouraging citizen participation in decision-making processes.

They also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in rebuilding trust between the government and the people, noting that effective governance is essential for sustainable development and peace.

The group pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, development partners, and government agencies, to ensure that policies and programmes are implemented in a manner that benefits the wider population.

Analysts say the renewed commitment by civil society organisations reflects a growing awareness of the need for active civic engagement, especially in regions recovering from conflict and socio-economic disruptions.

Borno State has, for years, been at the center of Nigeria’s security challenges, with communities grappling with the aftermath of insurgency, displacement, and infrastructure deficits. Observers note that this context makes the role of civil society even more crucial in advocating for effective governance and equitable distribution of resources.

The coalition further assured residents that it would serve as a voice for the people, ensuring that their concerns are heard and addressed by those in positions of authority.

It also called on citizens to actively participate in governance processes, including public consultations and community engagements, as part of efforts to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level.

Observers believe that sustained pressure from civil society groups could lead to improved governance outcomes, as governments are compelled to operate with greater transparency and responsiveness.

As the network intensifies its advocacy, attention will be on how authorities respond to calls for accountability and whether tangible improvements in governance and service delivery will follow.
