Borno deputy gov, over 100 passengers escape Max Air fire incident

The Deputy Governor of Borno State Umar Kadafur, and over 100 others narrowly escaped disaster on Wednesday when a Max Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja suffered engine failure after taking off from Maiduguri International Airport.

The incident, which occurred around 7pm was caused by a bird strike about 10 minutes into the flight.

The collision led to an engine fire, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing back at Maiduguri Airport.

While confirming the incident, a Max Air Staff said, “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, which caused one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers.”

The airline was said to have immediately provided another aircraft for passengers who were willing to continue on the journey while some others opted to retrieve their luggage and return home.

Meanwhile, the damaged aircraft remains grounded at Maiduguri Airport for repairs, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Airport authorities commended the crew’s professionalism in handling the situation and reassured travelers of their commitment to safety.
