(DDM) – The Borno State Government has unveiled a new scholarship initiative aimed at sending qualified indigent youths to study aeronautics at Isaac Balami University, marking a major investment in Nigeria’s aviation future.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the programme is designed to equip young people with advanced technical knowledge, modern aviation competencies, and globally competitive expertise required in the aeronautics sector.
Officials say the initiative was born out of a strategic need to fill critical skill gaps in Nigeria’s aviation industry, which has long struggled with shortages of trained engineers, aircraft technicians, and aeronautics specialists.
The state government stressed that many of these high-level aviation roles are currently occupied by foreign experts due to limited local capacity.
Borno’s investment seeks to reverse this trend by producing a new generation of indigenous talent through internationally recognized aeronautics training.
Isaac Balami University, founded by aviation expert and former National President of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of Nigeria, is regarded as the first dedicated aeronautics university in the country.
The institution offers specialized degrees in aircraft engineering, aviation technology, aeronautics design, and advanced maintenance studies tailored for Africa’s growing aviation needs.
The Borno State Government explained that the scholarships will target brilliant but financially disadvantaged youths who otherwise lack access to specialized aviation education.
Officials also revealed that the selection process will prioritize merit, technical aptitude, and genuine interest in aeronautical sciences.
The initiative aligns with Governor Babagana Zulum’s broader commitment to youth development, skills acquisition, and long-term economic reconstruction after years of conflict-driven setbacks.
