A devastating bomb explosion has claimed the lives of five people and injured 15 others in Kano in the wee hours of Saturday.

The blast, suspected to be caused by a military-grade mortar bomb, occurred in a densely populated area, sparking widespread panic.

The blast was powerful enough to cause significant damage and prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, confirmed that the explosion was suspected to have originated from military weaponry.

The police commissioner stated that the situation is still under investigation, but preliminary findings suggest the explosive material was being transported by a trailer.

The origin and purpose of the ordnance remain uncertain, and authorities are working to determine whether the truck belonged to the military or a contractor.

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm as investigations continue.

Security agencies are currently investigating the incident, and the facts will be clearer once the investigation is completed.

The authorities are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the explosion, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
