BREAKING: Abia Lands Commissioner, Chaka Chukwumerije, Survives Assassination Attempt

Published

on

The Honorable Commissioner for Lands and Housing in Abia State, Chaka Chukwumerije, narrowly escaped death two nights ago when unknown gunmen opened fire on his vehicle along the Okigwe–Umuahia road.

Chukwumerije, a key member of Governor Alex Otti’s cabinet, was reportedly returning to Umuahia when a trailing vehicle suddenly opened fire. Despite the hail of bullets, he and three others in the car miraculously escaped unhurt, although their vehicle was badly riddled with bullet holes.

His brother Dike Chukwumerije, who shared the terrifying experience, described it as a deliberate attempt on the Commissioner’s life, pointing out his unwavering dedication to public service and his long-standing loyalty to Governor Otti’s vision for a new Abia.

“Chaka has buried himself in his work. He’s been selfless, focused, and fully aligned with the reform-driven government of Alex Otti,” the relative said. “Unfortunately, it is often people like him—committed to doing the right thing—who face the greatest threats in our system.”

The family expressed gratitude to God for sparing the Commissioner’s life and emphasized that despite the dangers, they remain committed to serving the state with integrity and courage.

Security agencies are expected to investigate the attack, though no official statement has been released yet by the Abia State Government or the police.
