(DDM) – The African Democratic Congress Diaspora Network (ADC-DN) has issued a strong communiqué following a global emergency session, declaring a decisive international push over concerns about Nigeria’s democratic process.

DDM confirmed that the emergency meeting was held on April 4, 2026, from 6:02pm to 9:10pm Abuja time, bringing together ADC-DN leadership across Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East, as well as Oceania and the Pacific.

After extensive deliberations, the group adopted several key resolutions, including a firm position on leadership, electoral credibility, and global advocacy.

The diaspora body expressed full confidence in the leadership of Senator David Mark, reaffirming its commitment to party unity and democratic values within the African Democratic Congress.

In a strongly worded stance, ADC-DN aligned with the party’s national leadership in calling for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The group warned that recent actions by INEC have eroded public confidence and raised serious doubts about its neutrality as an electoral umpire.

It further noted that a wide spectrum of diaspora professionals and stakeholders have lost trust in the current leadership of the commission, describing the situation as requiring urgent corrective measures.

On international engagement, ADC-DN mandated its leadership across all five global regions to actively engage host governments, institutions, and diplomatic channels.

The objective, according to the communiqué, is to raise global awareness about perceived threats to Nigeria’s democracy and their wider international implications.

The group also called for increased international observation and support to safeguard electoral integrity in Nigeria.

As part of its strategy, ADC-DN directed all continental structures to initiate coordinated “Meet-the-Press” briefings and media engagements across their respective regions.

This move is aimed at amplifying global awareness, presenting fact-based narratives, and strengthening diaspora-led advocacy efforts.

On internal party matters, the network urged the ADC’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee to uphold strict internal democracy, transparency, and fairness.

It emphasised the need to reinforce discipline and consolidate a united, credible, and people-centred political platform.

The diaspora body also raised concerns about structural duplication, cautioning against the proposed Special Representatives Network in global capitals.

According to ADC-DN, such a move could weaken coordination and efficiency, as similar functions already exist within its established framework.

On organisational alignment, the network reaffirmed its commitment to holding its congress in line with the national ADC timetable and constitutional provisions.

It directed continental leaders to fast-track preparations, ensure inclusiveness, and promote broad participation across all structures.

The communiqué described the planned congress as a strategic platform for consolidating diaspora engagement and political alignment.

In a call to action, ADC-DN stressed that this moment represents a critical turning point in Nigeria’s democratic journey, urging members and stakeholders to remain vigilant, engaged, and committed to democratic principles.

The group concluded by reaffirming its position as a major global stakeholder and the “7th Political Zone” of the ADC, committed to defending democracy and promoting credible leadership.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Chairman Kenneth Chubuogwu Gbandi, General Secretary Chief Ojiodu-Ambrose Uche (Amb. Toni Tuklan), and Director of Media and Communications MacGodwin Iweajunwa.
