ENUGU – The African Democratic Congress has conducted its state congress in Enugu, electing new executives in an exercise held under tight security at a hotel venue in the state capital.
The congress, which took place at Universal Hotel in Enugu, produced General Christ Eze from Udenu Local Government Area as the new chairman of the party in Enugu State.
Party officials confirmed that the election was successfully concluded with the emergence of a new leadership team tasked with strengthening party structures across the state.
The Enugu North Zonal Chairman of the party, Hon. Prince Kingsley Acharabagu, announced the outcome while speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise.
He described the process as peaceful and well-organised, noting that the congress reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy and structured leadership renewal.
The African Democratic Congress has continued to hold congresses across various states as part of efforts to reposition itself ahead of future elections.
Political observers say the emergence of General Eze as state chairman signals a strategic move by the party to strengthen its presence in Enugu State’s competitive political environment.
They note that party congresses often serve as critical moments for restructuring, alliance-building, and grassroots mobilisation within Nigeria’s political system.
Security presence at the venue was described as tight, reflecting heightened sensitivity around political gatherings and internal party elections in the state.
Authorities ensured order throughout the process, allowing delegates and stakeholders to participate without disruption.
The newly elected executives are expected to focus on rebuilding party structures, expanding membership, and coordinating political activities across local government areas.
Stakeholders within the African Democratic Congress have congratulated the new leadership and expressed optimism about renewed progress within the party.
They have urged the executives to prioritize unity and internal cohesion in order to strengthen the party’s competitiveness in future elections.
Analysts say the development reflects ongoing efforts by smaller political parties to reorganize and position themselves as viable alternatives in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
They emphasize that leadership consolidation at the state level is crucial for effective participation in national politics.
Observers conclude that the Enugu congress marks another step in the party’s broader strategy to expand its influence and build stronger grassroots structures across the country.
