Anambra State appears to have become a hotspot for criminal elements as over nine civilians have been reportedly killed and one abducted during a vicious attack by gunmen in the state.
According to reports, the incident occurred near Wintess Garden on Ifite Amansea Road, Awka, on Thursday morning.
Witnesses at the scene revealed that the gunmen arrived in a white Venza before opening fire indiscriminately.
Meanwhile, police authorities in Anambra State have confirmed the attack.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman of the command, said, “The Police responding team has taken over the scene of indiscriminate shooting today, 24th October 2024, by 9:15 am at Ifite, behind Unizik gate, Awka, by suspected gunmen.
“Preliminary information shows that the armed men unprovoked started shooting sporadically, and some bullets fatally hit four persons.
“These victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Empty bullet shells were recovered from the scene.”
The police image maker further assured the general public that operations are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators, and more details will be provided as investigations continue.
However, this fresh violence is coming just four days after the brutal attack in Nibo, where 16 people were massacred.
