BREAKING: Appeal Court reinstates Ugochinyere as rep member

Published

on

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives who was sacked by the Tribunal has been reinstated by the Appeal Court sitting in Lagos State.

The court in a landmark judgement set aside the ruling of the Tribunal and upheld the election of Mr Ugochinyere as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives.

Recall that in September, the election Tribunal sitting in Mararaba High Court ruled that PDP had no candidate for the election as primaries didn’t hold in the Federal Constituency.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct rerun election Calls in 4 Wards between APC and LP candidates.

But in a unanimous judgment delivered on Wednesday, the Appeal Court headed by Justice Abubakar Babandi Gumel overruled the judgments of the Tribunal, stating that the petition was a preelection matter and as such, Tribunals do not have jurisdiction over pre-election matters.
