Breaking: Blinken meets Egyptian president over Gaza ceasefire

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken , on Thursday, met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo to discuss seeking a ceasefire in Gaza.

This meeting was part of Blinken’s talks with Arab officials regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The focus of Israel’s offensive in Gaza has been on the Al Shifa hospital, which is currently the only partially functioning medical facility in the northern part of the Strip.

The situation in Gaza has led to critical food shortages, with some areas experiencing levels of scarcity that exceed famine levels, according to the United Nations.

Blinken emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire tied to the release of hostages, stating that it would provide relief to the suffering people in Gaza, including children, women, and men.

The U.S. has drafted a resolution at the United Nations to support this initiative.

Ceasefire talks have also been taking place in Qatar, with a focus on a potential six-week truce that would involve the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees held in Israeli jails.

However, a major obstacle in the negotiations is that Hamas insists on releasing hostages as part of an agreement to end the war entirely, while Israel is only willing to consider a temporary pause in hostilities.
