Morocco has been crowned the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations champions after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board ruled that Senegal forfeited the final due to breaching competition regulations.
The decision, which was announced on Tuesday overturned the original result, where Senegal won 1-0 in extra time, and awards Morocco a 3-0 victory.
The controversy stemmed from Senegal’s walk-off protest during the final, triggered by a disputed penalty awarded to Morocco in stoppage time.
Despite Brahim Diaz missing the penalty, Senegal’s actions were deemed a violation of CAF rules, leading to the title being awarded to Morocco.
However, in its official statement, the football governing body confirmed that “the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match… with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).”
The ruling also addressed related disciplinary matters, including sanctions involving Moroccan player Ismaël Saibari and incidents during the match, but upheld the forfeiture decision that effectively hands Morocco the continental title.
