BREAKING: Court finds Natasha guilty of contempt

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has found the lawmaker representing Kogi Central at the national assembly, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt for a Facebook post she made despite a court order restraining parties from commenting on a related case.

Justice Binta Nyako delivered the judgment on Friday.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was found guilty of violating a court order by posting on Facebook about a matter related to her suspension.

The judge ordered the senator to publish an apology in two national dailies and on her Facebook page within seven days.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was fined N5 million.

The contempt charge was filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who argued that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s post violated the court order.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel argued that the post referred to a separate issue involving sexual harassment allegations, but the court disagreed.
