BREAKING: Court reinstates Shaibu as Edo deputy gov

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice James Omotosho has voided the impeachment of Phillip Shuaibu as the deputy governor of Edo State.

Delivering the judgment on Wednesday, Justice Omotosho mandated Shuaibu’s reinstatement, citing the Edo State House of Assembly’s failure to adhere to due process during the impeachment.

He also ordered the Inspector General of Police to immediately restore Shaibu’s security details and mandated the payment of his salaries and allowances from April.

This comes after Shaibu was booted out of office in April 2024, and Godwins Omobayo was sworn in as his replacement.

Shaibu had described his removal as illegal and vowed to fight it. With this court ruling, he has been reinstated as the Deputy Governor of Edo.

Meanwhile, the implications of this court ruling are yet to be fully understood, but it marks a major victory for Shaibu.
