BREAKING: Defence minister Badaru resigns

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from his position due to health reasons.

The development was confirmed on Monday in a statement issued by the spokesman of the President, Chief Bayo Onanuga.

In a letter dated December 1, 2025, addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Badaru cited deteriorating health as the reason for his resignation.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu is expected to forward the name of a new Defence Minister to the Senate later this week for confirmation

Badaru, 63, previously served as Governor of Jigawa State for two terms between 2015 and 2023 before joining President Tinubu’s cabinet on August 21, 2023.

His resignation comes amid a national security emergency declared by President Tinubu, with further briefings expected on the administration’s strategy to strengthen security across the country.
