(DDM) – Tension has erupted in Enugu State following the suspension of a nursing student who exposed alleged poor conditions at a public health facility in the state.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirmed that the student, Joy Ezeugwu, was suspended indefinitely after raising public concern over the state of the Uwani Health Centre in Enugu.

Joy, a student of Ezzy College of Nursing, reportedly shared a video highlighting the condition of the facility, sparking widespread reactions online.

The footage, now circulating on social media, allegedly showed a hospital operating in darkness without electricity, water supply, cleaners, or security presence.

Observers said the situation was particularly alarming as a patient was reportedly in labour during the time the video was recorded.

The development has triggered public outrage, with many questioning the state of healthcare infrastructure in the area.

Critics argue that instead of addressing the issues raised, authorities appear to have taken disciplinary action against the whistleblower.

Supporters of the student have described her action as courageous, insisting that she acted in the interest of public health and safety.

The Obedient Movement in Enugu State, through its coordinator Chukwude IKenna Cleat, has called for dialogue over the matter.

The group urged authorities to reconsider the suspension and engage the student in discussions aimed at resolving the situation.

They also appealed to members of the public to help facilitate communication that could lead to her reinstatement.

Analysts say the incident raises broader concerns about freedom of expression and accountability within public institutions.

They note that whistleblowing, especially in critical sectors like healthcare, is essential for identifying systemic failures.

However, others argue that institutions may enforce internal rules regarding public disclosures by students or staff.

The case has further intensified conversations around the condition of primary healthcare centres in many parts of Nigeria.

Residents and civil society groups are now calling for urgent intervention to address the issues highlighted in the video.

As reactions continue to grow, attention remains on how the Enugu State Government and the school authorities will respond to mounting public pressure.
