Governor, Pastor Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Nigeria Pastor Umo Eno, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging members of his Executive Council to either follow his political path or vacate their positions.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered from reliable sources, including Vanguard, that the governor issued this directive during a State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday in Uyo.

In his remarks, Governor Eno stated plainly:

“It is no longer news that I have made up my mind to defect to the All Progressives Congress.”

The governor cited his admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as the key reason for his defection, saying:

“I am in love with the leadership style of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu. As such, I would want to align with him.”

Governor Eno gave a firm warning to all appointees and aides who may intend to remain in PDP while holding office in his administration:

“Apart from elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you. Follow me or leave.”

This announcement puts an end to months of political speculation surrounding his position within the PDP and signals a major political shift in Akwa Ibom politics.

Governor Eno also dismissed speculations that the PDP structure in the state would be used against him post-defection.

“Anybody who believes when I leave PDP he will use the party structure to fight me is lying because I will still control the PDP structure,” he warned.

He emphasized that his move to APC was not sudden or secret, and anyone claiming ignorance was, in his words, “still living in the 18th century.”

Political analysts say this development could trigger widespread realignments in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Many appointees and stakeholders in the PDP are now faced with the difficult choice of switching allegiance or losing political relevance.

The governor’s defection follows a growing trend of opposition governors shifting to the ruling APC, a strategy believed to be aimed at securing stronger federal support and positioning for future political ambitions.

More reactions from party members and national stakeholders are expected in the coming days as the situation unfolds.
