Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in the state.

Fubara announced his decision in a personally signed statement on Wednesday, saying he would throw his weight behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.

The governor said the move followed wide consultations and careful consideration.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” he stated.

He added that his loyalty to the party remains intact despite stepping away from the race.

“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara said.

Fubara’s withdrawal comes amid shifting political calculations ahead of the Rivers APC governorship primaries and follows the earlier exit of former governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, from the contest.

More details are expected to emerge.
