Breaking: FUNAAB ranked top 10 Nigerian universities in 2025

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has once again distinguished itself by earning a place among the top 10 universities in Nigeria, according to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

Abeokuta is a city in southwest Nigeria known for its rich history and cultural significance.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the rankings, released on June 18, 2025, evaluated 2,526 universities from 130 countries and regions, including 36 institutions from Nigeria that made the final list.

The rankings assessed how well universities are advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through teaching, research, outreach, and stewardship.

FUNAAB was ranked 7th overall in Nigeria, further cementing its reputation as a top performing institution committed to academic excellence and sustainable development.

In addition, the university achieved significant milestones in specific SDG categories.

Notably, FUNAAB was ranked 2nd in Nigeria for SDG 4 (Quality Education), showcasing its commitment to inclusive and equitable education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The institution also ranked 3rd in SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), reflecting its strength in agricultural research and innovation, a core mandate of the university.

In the SDG 13 (Climate Action) category, FUNAAB secured the 4th position nationally, recognizing its efforts toward combating climate change and its impacts.

Additionally, the university was ranked 6th in Nigeria for SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting its collaborative approach to achieving sustainable outcomes.

Reacting to the achievement, Vice Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde congratulated the university community and emphasized that the accomplishment was the result of collective effort.

He encouraged all stakeholders to continue striving for greater achievements in subsequent editions.

The latest recognition reinforces FUNAAB’s status as a leader in sustainability-focused education, research, and innovation, not only in Nigeria but also on the global stage.
