Breaking: Herdsmen unleash terror on Agan community, many feared dead
DDM News

An evening attack by suspected herdsmen in Agan community, located in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, has left many feared dead and several others injured.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the assailants invaded the semi-urban settlement at about 6:00 p.m., shooting sporadically and setting multiple homes ablaze.
The sudden violence caused widespread panic as villagers scrambled to escape, with many fleeing their homes to avoid the gunfire and fires.
Agan community lies just minutes from the heart of Makurdi city, making the attack particularly alarming for residents and security agencies alike.
Eyewitnesses noted that despite the severity of the attack, there was no immediate response from security forces, raising questions about preparedness and rapid reaction in the area.
A video circulating widely on social media shows panicked residents running for safety, some clutching children tightly as they sought refuge from the chaos.
This recent assault adds to a growing wave of violence that has engulfed parts of Benue State in recent weeks.
Benue has become a flashpoint for deadly clashes between farming communities and suspected herders, with disputes over land and resources often erupting into violent confrontations.
In April, coordinated attacks allegedly carried out by armed herdsmen killed no fewer than 56 people in Logo and Gbagir communities within Ukum Local Government Area.
The ongoing conflict continues to threaten the safety and livelihoods of many residents across the state.
Authorities have been urged to improve security measures and address the root causes of these clashes to prevent further loss of life and displacement.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on developments in Benue State.
