Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has fallen ill at Kuje Prison in Abuja.
This development comes 24 hours after the presiding judge, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, refused to sign the bail bond for his release.
Ejimakor’s lawyer, Barrister Maxwell Opara, was unable to meet with him during a routine visit, and sources indicate he may be transferred to a hospital.
Ejimakor, arrested on Monday with 12 others, including Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, was reportedly teargassed and beaten before being detained.
The group was remanded by the Senior Magistrate without their lawyer present, and despite being granted bail on Friday, the Magistrate disappeared without signing the bail bond.
Ejimakor is currently receiving medical attention from nurses at the Kuje Correctional center, with his condition reportedly deteriorating.
