Senator Tunde Ogbeha, a prominent political figure in Kogi State and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party, citing unresolved internal crises and a loss of direction.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Senator Ogbeha, long regarded as one of the PDP’s most steadfast loyalists, announced his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward A in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.

In the letter, Ogbeha expressed disappointment with the party’s recent trajectory, stating that the PDP has become a “shadow of its former self” due to persistent leadership crises, deep divisions, and irreconcilable internal disagreements.

“I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect,” Ogbeha stated.

“Even when nearly all stakeholders departed the party following our loss in the 2015 presidential election, I pledged to remain the last man standing.”

He explained that his loyalty was rooted in hope that the PDP would eventually recover.

Despite his efforts to rebuild and reposition the party, he said the continued decline had exposed it to public ridicule and diminished its effectiveness as a viable opposition platform.

“After wide consultations with my family, friends, and political associates, I have resolved to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as part of the collective effort to rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy,” Ogbeha added.

Ogbeha’s defection is viewed by analysts as a major blow to the PDP in Kogi State, especially given his legacy as a respected elder statesman and one of the most influential figures in the state’s political history.

His move to the ADC signals a potential realignment of political forces ahead of upcoming elections, particularly in a state known for its fluid and often unpredictable political dynamics.

Observers note that the ADC has been actively courting experienced politicians dissatisfied with the current structure and leadership of Nigeria’s major parties.

Ogbeha’s entry may lend the ADC increased credibility and visibility, especially in the North Central region.

With Ogbeha’s exit, the PDP faces mounting pressure to resolve its internal conflicts and redefine its direction to prevent further losses of high-profile members to rising political alternatives.
