The world of rock music has lost one of its most iconic and controversial figures.

Ozzy Osbourne, legendary frontman of the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, has died at the age of 76.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that his family confirmed the news in an emotional statement released on Tuesday.

According to a report by the BBC, the statement read, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.”

Osbourne had been battling Parkinson’s disease for years.

He was originally diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder in 2003, but he publicly revealed his condition in 2020 after being rediagnosed in 2019.

The news of his passing comes just weeks after what would now be his final performance, a farewell concert with Black Sabbath in his hometown of Birmingham.

The concert, which many fans described as emotional and nostalgic, marked the end of an era for the band that helped define heavy metal in the 1970s.

Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Aston, Birmingham, England, Ozzy rose to fame as the wild and magnetic lead singer of Black Sabbath.

The band, formed in 1968, included guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward.

Together, they released classic albums such as Paranoid (1970), Master of Reality (1971), and Black Sabbath Vol. 4 (1972), which laid the groundwork for the heavy metal genre and influenced countless musicians across generations.

Osbourne’s voice and theatrical stage antics, including biting the head off a bat during a live performance, became the stuff of rock folklore.

His troubled lifestyle, marked by substance abuse, wild parties, and frequent controversies, only added to his legend.

Despite being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his excessive drug use, Ozzy went on to enjoy a successful solo career.

He released hit albums like Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman, introducing fans to now-legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads and producing hits such as “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.”

In the early 2000s, Osbourne reinvented himself for a new generation of fans through the MTV reality show The Osbournes, which starred him alongside his wife Sharon and their children, Jack and Kelly.

The series offered an intimate, often humorous glimpse into the chaotic but loving household of the Osbournes and earned him newfound fame beyond music.

Throughout his life, Ozzy faced multiple health battles.

In addition to Parkinson’s, he underwent numerous surgeries, including treatment for a severe spinal injury following a fall in 2019.

Despite his declining health, he remained determined to perform, often expressing a deep desire to return to the stage no matter the obstacles.

His resilience endeared him to fans who admired not just his music but his tenacity and passion.

Tributes have begun to pour in from across the globe, with fellow musicians, fans, and cultural icons remembering Osbourne not only as the Prince of Darkness but also as a beloved husband, father, and artist who defied expectations.

Many have praised his groundbreaking contributions to music, while others recalled the personal moments they shared with him either on tour or on screen.

Though his body of work spanned decades, Ozzy Osbourne’s influence will likely endure for generations to come.

His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of rock and roll, a chapter written in distortion, defiance, and an unyielding spirit.

He is survived by his wife Sharon and their children.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be publicly announced as the family continues to grieve privately.
