Ghana is in mourning after a military helicopter crash killed two senior ministers and six others on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
According to Reuters, the crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
They were on official duty at the time of the accident.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the news during a brief press conference in Accra.
The crash happened near Adansi-Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. The victims were traveling to the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme.
Shortly after takeoff from Accra, the Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter went off radar.
Emergency teams later found the wreckage burning at the crash site.
Images from the scene showed the aircraft completely destroyed. Charred remains of the victims were visible in the debris.

Authorities have not yet released the full list of deceased or injured.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered national flags to fly at half-mast to honour the victims.
“The President and government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service,” said Mr Debrah.
