BREAKING: Mission X Complete! Falcons Beat Morocco to Win WAFCON

The Super Falcons survived a 2-0 early lead by host Morocco, in the finals of the 2025 Women Africa Cup of Nations, on Saturday in Rabat, Morocco.
Mission X was the target and it looked like the mission was impossible when the hosts Morocco raced into an early 2-0 lead and led that way at half time.
But the introduction of Echegini and Babajide early in the second half worked some magic.
Many had wondered why the coach left them on the bench in the first place, leaving a crippled midfield and putting so much pressure on the defense line.
Esther Okonkwo had to do too much to cover for the midfield. But it was not enoughto hold back the rampagiing Moroccans.
The Moroccans had scored in the 12th and 24th minute through Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.
But the Super Falcons pulled one back in the 63rd minute via a penalty which was neatly converted by Esther Okoronkwo.
It was Okoronkwo’s second goal of the tournament.
The goal brought some fighting spirit in the Super Falcons, and not too long from the first goal, Folasade Ijamilusi levelled scores for the Super Falcons in the 71st minute.
Esther Okoronkwo provided the assist after winning the ball off the Moroccan defense and laying it back unselfishly for Ijamilusi to score.
The Moroccans were awarded a penalty, which sent shock waves through the spines of supporters of the Super Falcons in the Stadium, across Nigeria and the world.
But the penalty call was cancelled after a VAR check confirmed it was no penalty, much to the relief of the Nigerian team and her supporters.
Echegini, dubbed “Magic Joe” had the come back was crowned with a soothing winning goal in the 88th minute that many feared the match would go into extra time, when she scored the Super Falcons third and winning goal.
Esther Okoronkwo turned the provider again with a well-taken free kick which Jennifer Echegini connected beautifully with her right foot for the goal.
The goal sent the Nigerian team and her fans (who occupied a small fraction of the stadium) into frenzy.
Mission X which was the theme of the Super Falcons was thus completed with this victory.
The victory however, did not come without a heavy price, as the hosts continued from where they stopped the last time they played against the Super Falcons.
Atlas lionesses as they are called had their fans flashing lasers into the faces of the Super Falcons players in the semi-finals of that edition.
Nigeria had ended that game with 9 ladies courtesy of two red cards given to the Super Falcons.
The Moroccans went on to win the game on penalties.
But the Super Falcons were undeterred in this year’s edition, as they fought to a victory over the hosts.
This means the Super Falcons continue to dominate the African scene of female football with her 10th title of the WAFCON.
Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie won the goalkeeper of the tournament.
Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak won the top scorer award.
Super Falcon’s skipper, Rasheedat Ajibade won the player of the tournament award.
Ghana had earlier on Friday, defeated South Africa on penalties, to win the bronze medal.
The Super Falcons are not just the winners of the WAFCON for the record tenth time, but also the winners of the new trophy which was unveiled for this edition.
