BREAKING: Moghalu vows end of Agbero rule, illegal levies in Anambra

(DDM) – The Labour Party Governorship Candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, has assured residents of Onitsha that his administration will end touts’ harassment and multiple taxation that suffocate businesses in Anambra State.

GNM Media Center told Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) that Moghalu made this declaration during his visit to the prestigious Onitsha Sports Club, where he sought the support of members as consultations intensify ahead of the November 8 gubernatorial election.

Moghalu, who expressed gratitude to the club’s leadership for the opportunity, described Onitsha as the political and economic hub of Anambra.

He emphasized that his campaign is anchored on experience, vision, and a determined commitment to restore sanity to governance.

Addressing the gathering, he lamented the worsening insecurity across the state and the stifling atmosphere created by what he called “Agbero culture”, the harassment of traders and transporters by touts disguised as revenue agents.

He vowed to decisively confront insecurity using strengthened community policing, technology-driven surveillance, and effective partnerships with security agencies.

“We cannot continue like this. Investors have abandoned Anambra because they fear for their safety. I will make Anambra a safe haven again,” Moghalu assured.

On taxation, Moghalu promised to abolish illegal levies and dismantle tout networks that prey on markets and transport routes.

He said his administration would introduce a transparent, digitalized tax system that ensures fairness, reduces extortion, and guarantees revenue goes directly into government coffers.

“I will end the reign of Agbero and illegal levies that suffocate our traders. Under my watch, businesses will thrive, and government will regain the trust of the people,” he declared to loud applause from members of the club.

GNM Media Center further reported that the President of Onitsha Sports Club, Chief Daniel Olisa Okafor, and renowned businessman, Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke, founder of GUO Motors, were among dignitaries present at the meeting.

Moghalu appealed for their support, advice, and partnership, pledging that his government will prioritize economic revival, a business-friendly environment, and a security strategy that restores confidence for residents and investors alike.

He concluded by stressing that Anambra must return to its reputation as a state of commerce and enterprise, not fear and harassment.

“Our people are hardworking. What they need is peace, fairness, and freedom from touts and illegal taxation,” he declared.
