Breaking: Nigeria’s FA chairs back Amunike, Finidi to lead Eagles after Paseiro’s exit

Barring last minutes maneuver, former Tanzanian technical adviser and Ex- Super Eagles ace, Emmanuel Amunike, may just be the next head coach of the Nigerian senior national football team, Super Eagles after exit of the Portuguese coach, Jose Paseiro, DDM has learnt exclusively from insiders in the Nigerian Football FAmunikeederation, NFF.

AFCON 2023 Silver winning coach of the national team on Friday quit the team after disclosing his resignation over his X handle.

It was learnt also that NFF had been aware all along that the Portuguese will leave given the plethora of offers coming his way after his success at the AFCON.

Even more, state chairmen of football associations believe that local coaches should replace the Portuguese.

“From AFCON experience, we can see that local coaches did well. Even better than the foreign ones.

“As a result, the Ibrahim Gusau led federation had begun plans to shore up the team’s technical bench even as the country continues its World Cup qualification,” said.

“Apart from Amunike, George Finidi, Super Eagles assistant coach and Enyimba of Aba gaffer are said to have been penciled in.

The online news portal learnt that there is third local coach been tipped to join Amunike and Finidi but couldn’t confirm the veracity of the claim as the time of filing this report.

Amunike made record as the coach that took lowly rated Tanzania to AFCON for the first time nearly after 30 years.
