BREAKING: Obi declares support for hunger protests

The Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Mr Peter Obi has declared support for the nationwide hunger protests slated for August 1.

NewsBand reported that the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests is being organized by angry young Nigerians who are frustrated with the rising cost of living and economic difficulties.

Meanwhile, following a meeting with Abia State governor Alex Otti on Sunday, Obi stressed the importance of conducting the protests legally and peacefully.

The former governor of Anambra State called on security agencies to respect the rights of the protesters and handle the situation within the extant laws.

Obi stated, “Protest is a constitutional right in Nigeria. I urge the protesters to act lawfully and civilly, demonstrating that we are a nation governed by law. The economic situation is tough, and it’s crucial to listen to the grievances of the people.”

Also, addressing concerns about the potential sponsors of the protests, Obi said, “The true sponsors are the hunger and hopelessness felt by the youth. We must acknowledge and address these issues.”

He also advised security operatives to manage the situation without excessive force.
