BREAKING: Obiano Shuts Down Nnewi Electrical Market

Share this:

The governor of Anambra State, Mr. Willie Obiano has shut down the Electrical Parts Market in Nnewi which was recently gutted by fire.

News of the recent action was confirmed to ElombahNews by businessmen based in Nnewi, who spoke to this medium.

One of them, an eyewitness, while corresponding with ElombahNews, explained how the market was under siege by a combined team of stern-looking, unfriendly military, police and Civil Defence personnels that won’t allow the affected traders to ply their trade.

Responding to the news about how Anambra State Government closed down electrical parts market today, he said:

“Yesterday I noticed that they (electrical parts) are working seriously to rebuild the affected areas of last fire outbreak.

“This morning I passed there around 6am only to see Army, police, AVS group, even Civil Defence and their patrol vans lined up at the area.

“On coming back around 8am they were still there, so I was forced to ask questions.

“In response, I was told that the state Government seal the place because they want them to move over to the new site situated at Nwanyi Imo bus stop.”

On a personal note of evaluation, however, he reasoned that the initiative is “highly impossible” since “the new site is a private property”.

He said: “Later someone told me that it’s highly impossible to move because the new site is a private property and the shop rent is too high.”

He noted that “if Government should provide a place for them, they will easily develop the place and move there.”

Recall that last two weeks,  on February 7, ElombahNews broke this news how a late night fire gutted the said market and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.

The damage would have been more devastating but for the timely intervention of fire and security personnels.
