BREAKING: PDP Suspends National Secretary, Three Others

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended four top officials reportedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Those affected include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); the National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; and the Deputy National Legal Adviser.

The decision was announced on Saturday after a marathon NWC meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. The suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month pending the outcome of a disciplinary review.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the move was taken to restore internal discipline and unity.

“The National Working Committee, after careful deliberation, has resolved to suspend the affected officers for one month and refer them to the Disciplinary Committee for further action,” Ologunagba said.

He emphasized that the decision followed the party’s constitutional process and was aimed at curbing indiscipline within its leadership ranks.

Party insiders said the suspended officials, seen as close allies of Wike, had distanced themselves from recent party meetings, heightening internal divisions ahead of the PDP’s planned national convention.

This latest twist comes as tension grows over the convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the PDP to suspend all preparations, ruling that leadership and delegate disputes must first be resolved.

Reacting to the ruling, Ologunagba said the party would appeal the judgment and proceed with its plans.

“The PDP respects the judiciary, but we will challenge this ruling at the appellate court. Our preparations for the national convention remain on course,” he said.

The suspension of the four key officials marks another chapter in the party’s ongoing internal struggle between factions loyal to Wike and those aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
