BREAKING: Prison officials, DSS assault, torture Inibehe, use blunt instruments to shave his beards

Officials of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), at the Uyo Prison in Akwa Ibom State, in conjunction with men of the Department of State Security (DSS), have reportedly assaulted and tortured Inibehe Effiong inside the prison facility.

According to available information, the officials used blunt instruments to shave his beards and injured him in the process.

Former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, disclosed this on his Twitter handle on Thursday.

Prof. Odinkalu tweeted:

Breaking: Officers of @CorrectionsNg at the Uyo Prison in Akwa Ibom State, SS #Nigeria, overnight reportedly assaulted & tortured @inibeheeffiong , using blunt instruments to shave his beards, & injuring him in the process. Inibehe’s personal safety is now clearly in jeopardy.

Recall that News Band had reported that the Chief Judge of Akwa Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Francesca Fabian Obot has ordered for the remand of Inibehe Effiong in Uyo Correctional Centre.

According to the report, Effiong’s said trouble started after Justice Obot ordered a Premium Times reporter out of the courtroom over a case that was supposed to be observed by the members of the public.
