Breaking: Senate Stands Down INEC Commissioners Over Buhari’s Refusal To Remove Magu

Published

on

The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, postponed screening and confirmation of 27 Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] commissioners for two weeks.

This, according to the Senate, will enable them to know what next step President Muhammadu Buhari will take on the appointment of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

Senate had last rejected Magu as Chairman of EFCC and up till the present minute the Buhari-led presidency has refused to make its position known.

However, while considering nomination of Mr. President on the issue of INEC commissioners, Senator Peter Nwaboshi raised the issue that Mr. President has refused to do something on their rejection of Magu as EFCC boss.

The lawmaking chamber, thereafter, stood down the exercise until further notice.

Senate took its decision after one hour, forty minutes closed session.
