BREAKING: Seven New Political Parties Storm INEC Ahead 2027 Elections
DDM News

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the receipt of seven additional applications from political associations seeking registration ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that this brings the total number of applications for political party registration to 129, as announced by INEC through a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the new requests are part of a growing number of applications under review, and the process is now being streamlined through digital innovation.
Olumekun revealed that INEC has introduced a Political Party Registration Portal, which is a component of the Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS).
Unlike the previous manual approach, this portal is expected to speed up the application process and ensure a seamless experience for prospective political parties.
He said, “In the next one week, the Commission will conclude the final testing of the portal before deployment. Thereafter, the next step for associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage will be announced.”
He added that INEC will soon issue guidelines to assist applicants in using the digital platform for filing applications.
Olumekun also disclosed that the list of newly interested political associations has been published on INEC’s website and other official platforms for transparency.
Below is the list of the seven new political associations seeking registration:
1. United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
- Protem Chairman: Professor Ibrahim Modibbo
- Protem Secretary: Professor Emmanuel Adekunle
2. National Peace Congress Party of Nigeria (NPCP)
- Protem Chairman: Tahir Omada
- Protem Secretary: Not Indicated
3. Alliance for Transformation Mandates (ATM)

4. Democracy for the Citizens Party (DFP)

5. African Renaissance Party (ARP)

- Protem Chairman: Amedu Ben
- Protem Secretary: Hassanat Olatunji
7. Future Democratic Party (FDP)
- Protem Chairman: Not Indicated
- Protem Secretary: Not Indicated
The emergence of these new applications has raised attention due to the duplicate listing of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), bearing different leadership names. It is unclear whether this is a clerical error or if separate factions are attempting to register under the same name.
Observers believe the surge in registration efforts may signal increased political mobilization in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
INEC has yet to approve any of the new applications and has reiterated that compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements remains a condition for full registration
