As part of his administration’s efforts to overhaul the secret police, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The appointment was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the President, Mr Ajuri Ngelale on Monday.

According to Ajuri, Ajayi will take over from Yusuf Magaji Bichi, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

“With this new appointment, President Tinubu aims to inject fresh leadership and expertise into the DSS, tasked with addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

“As the new Director-General, Ajayi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. His appointment signals a new chapter for the DSS, and Nigerians will be watching closely to see how he tackles the country’s security issues.

“The appointment of Ajayi as DSS Director-General is a crucial step towards repositioning Nigeria’s security agencies for better results.

“With his leadership, the DSS is expected to play a more effective role in addressing the country’s security challenges, including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry”, the statement reads.
