President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with the sole administrator he appointed to manage the affairs of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas.
The meeting is coming barely 24 hours after he declared State of emergency in the oil rich state.
Ibas arrived at the forecourt of the Presidential Villa at about 12:48pm.
This medium reported on Tuesday that Mr. Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a period of six months.
In a nationwide broadcast, Mr. Tinubu justified his decision on the lingering political face-off in the state which escalated on Tuesday with bombing of two oil pipelines by suspected militants.
The crisis, which had crippled governance in the state, stems from a power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
As part of the directive, President Tinubu appointed Ibas as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs until normalcy is restored.
Ibas served as Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
