Florida State University was thrown into chaos on Thursday April 17, 2025, following reports of an active shooter near the Student Union campus.

According to reports, an emergency alert issued by the university urged students and staff to shelter in place.

“Lock and stay away from all doors and windows,” the message warned. “Police are on the scene or en route.”

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including state troopers, fire crews, and local police, have flooded the campus.

Sirens echoed across downtown Tallahassee as ambulances transported the injured from the scene.

An employee inside the Bellamy Building told reporters that the building was under lockdown.

Law enforcement officers were evacuating it floor by floor.

The same source reported hearing what sounded like gunshots from within the building.

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare confirmed it is treating victims connected to the incident.

“We are actively receiving and caring for patients,” a hospital spokesperson said.

“Our teams are fully mobilized to provide the highest level of care and support.”

As of now, the number of victims and the status of the shooter remain unclear.

Police have not issued further details, and the Florida State University Police Department has not responded to media inquiries.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow.
