Brexit spells “sad day for Europe” - David Cameron and Germany; Scotland exited

Barely hours after the Prime Minister of the United kingdom, David Cameron resigned following Brexit EU vote, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is sad.

Steinmeier says that Britain’s decision to leave the European Union is “truly sobering” and “sad.”

“The news from Britain is truly sobering.

“It looks like it’s going to be sad day for Europe and for Britain,” Steinmeier said in Berlin.

Britain has voted to leave the European Union, results from Thursday’s landmark referendum showed.

The outcome sets the country on an uncertain path and deals the largest setback to European efforts to forge greater unity since World War II.

Early complete results showed a 51.7/48.3 per cent split for leaving.

By 5.20 a.m. (0420 GMT), nearly 90 per cent of the vote had been counted, making Leave’s lead virtually impossible to reverse.

SCOTLAND SEES FUTURE AS PART OF EU, STURGEON SAYS STAY

Scotland has made clear that it sees its future as part of the European Union, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Friday, after it voted to remain while most of the United Kingdom voted to leave.

“The vote here makes clear that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union,” Sturgeon said in a statement.

“We await the final UK-wide result, but Scotland has spoken – and spoken decisively.”

Reuben Abati’s prediction on ‎Brexit‬:

1. Murky outcome.

2. Bloodbath in Britain.

3. National currency in crisis.

4. Great uncertainty.

5. Legacy and survival crisis for PM Cameron, so he quits.

6. Leadership and responsibility at critical national moment.

Down history lane:

i. Toxic moment for the United Kingdom. The martyrdom of Jo Cox and the triumph of the Eurosceptics. Threat to the United Kingdom.

ii. Uncertainty rules. Article 50 loading. Threat of copycat plebiscites likely. Watch Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Hungary, Greece, Scotland, France…

iii. The Treaty of Rome unraveling. Serious implications for immigration rules and trade relations. African immigrants to be seriously affected in the long run.

iv. The Pro-Remain experts lost. The people won. Change is delicate. Democracy and its discontents…

v. Should Nigeria risk similar referendum on burning national issues?

vi. In Nigeria, the certain outcome, I guess is that the referendum will be rigged or annulled by a cabal.

vii. The pound is down 10% against the dollar. Figure out the implications for tourism and other issues.

viii. Britain lives at great cost. But the referendum is not binding until parliament rules, so we wait….
