Busted! Senator Dino Melaye’s ABU Certificate Is Fake

Published

on

Senator Dino Melaye is evidently licking his sore wounds by now as investigations from Ahmadu Bello University [ABU], Zaria, have indicated that the Bachelor of Arts certificate purportedly obtained by the senator from the institution is fake.

[Dino Melaye is the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT)].

For a start, PUNCH investigations punctured holes in Senator Melaye’s claim that he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts [Geography] certificate.

The famed institution disclosed that it only offers B.Sc. Geography and not B.A. Geography as reflected on Melaye’s statement of results.

The B.Sc. [Bachelor of Science] certificate, by implication, means that ABU offers Geography as a Science subject and not Arts, under Faculty of Science and not Faculty of Arts.

The document below shows Melaye’s Bachelor of Arts statement with ABU logo on it:

The statement was issued by the Office of the Registrar, Academic Office and dated February 3, 2000, and was signed by B.B. Mshelthlila.

The qualification scandal has engendered controversy at the upper chamber of the National Assembly with the Senate pledging to investigate the ruse.

The Senate committee on Ethics and Privileges had vowed to investigate allegations leveled against Melaye over the fake certificate scandal.

Trouble had begun on Monday, March 20, 2017 when Sahara Reporters, an online news medium, in a tweet alleged that the senator did not graduate from ABU for his first degree.

That was against his claim that he studied Geography in the prestigious institution.

The news medium also alleged that Melaye bribed his Head of Department, who assisted him to forge his transcript. In a series of tweets via its Twitter handle, @SaharaReporters, the online news medium said some lecturers in the Geography Department insisted that Melaye did not graduate from the department and that his name was not on the graduation list because he failed five compulsory courses.

Reacting to the allegations, Dino Melaye slammed a N5 billion libel suit among other charges on SaharaReporters for breaking the fake certificate news.
