Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has declared the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) politically irrelevant in the state following the All Progressives Grand Alliance’s (APGA) sweeping victories in Saturday’s by-elections.
While speaking on Sunday during a celebration in Nanka, Soludo described both parties as “dead” and “non-existent,” taking a direct jab at his predecessor, Peter Obi, who supported ADC candidates during the polls.
“ADC does not exist in Anambra. We showed it yesterday. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo remarked to cheers from APGA supporters adorned in party paraphernalia featuring the iconic cock logo.
He noted that the ADC coalition attempted to use the by-election as a popularity test but was decisively rejected by voters.
“The people spoke overwhelmingly with over 75%. APGA is our movement,” he added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed APGA’s dominance with Emmanuel Nwachukwu winning the Anambra South Senatorial District seat, polling 90,408 votes.
He defeated Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 19,847 votes, and ADC’s Donald Amangbo, who managed just 2,889 votes.
Nwachukwu will replace Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in July 2024. Similarly, APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe emerged victorious in the Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election for the State House of Assembly, further solidifying the party’s grip.
Soludo also highlighted that Onitsha North is Peter Obi’s home constituency, emphasizing APGA’s win there as a symbolic rejection of Obi’s influence.
He described the allied opposition effort as a failed “experiment,” stating, “The people of Anambra spoke loud and clear.”
With APGA’s resounding success, Soludo’s remarks underscore his confidence in the party’s grassroots dominance ahead of the November 2025 gubernatorial election, where he seeks re-election.
