Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has officially rolled out a pilot AI-powered business registration portal, marking a major step forward in Streamlining company registration.

Alongside this, a wave of homegrown AI innovations is transforming industries like agriculture, banking, and logistics  showing Nigeria’s growing tech muscle.

The CAC’s Registrar-General, Malam Hussaini Magaji, introduced the new system at the 2025 Stakeholders Forum in Port Harcourt.

The upgraded portal replaces the old Company Registration Portal (CRP) with an AI engine that approves business-name reservations instantly, offers smart name suggestions, and validates National Identification Numbers (NINs) in real time.

Magaji said entrepreneurs can complete registration and receive certificates in under 30 minutes a dramatic improvement over previous delays.

Nigeria’s AI Landscape Expands

Agri-Tech Smart Farming: In Kano State, FarmSense AI uses satellite data and drones to advise farmers on planting times, irrigation, and pest control.

Early pilots show a 20% yield increase and 30% reduction in fertilizer use.

Fintech Fraud Protection: Lagos fintech SecurePay AI launched last month to flag suspicious financial transactions in real time.

The platform has already blocked over ₦5 billion (about $6.7 million) in potential fraud since its rollout.

Logistics & Delivery: Startup QuickRoute AI uses machine learning and live traffic data to optimize delivery routes.

In Benin City, average delivery times have dropped from 3 hours to just 90 minutes.

Healthcare Triage Assistant: In Abuja, the AI-powered tool MediAssist helps community clinics by analyzing patient symptoms to triage cases.

In pilot programs, 85% of clinic staff say it has improved diagnostic speed and patient triage.

Education Support: TeachBot, a Lagos-based chatbot, offers assignment guidance and instant feedback to secondary students.

Over 10,000 users signed up within its first two months, with 77% reporting improved learning outcomes.

A National AI Vision

These sectoral breakthroughs align with the government’s national AI strategy and partnerships with global tech leaders.

Google recently awarded ₦2.8 billion in AI grants to Nigerian startups, while the CAC portal has drawn interest from several West African nations seeking modern business registration platforms.

By integrating AI into both government services and private-sector innovation, Nigeria is positioning itself as a leading AI hub in Africa, doubling down on digital transformation and economic growth.

What’s Next?

Phase two of the CAC portal, opening to all states, is expected by Q1 2026.

Agri-tech scale-up will roll out to 50,000 farmers nationwide by end-2025.

Fintech and logistics AI platforms plan to expand into other West African markets in 2025.
