Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been named among the final nominees for the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

This marks the first time the Atalanta star has made it to the final shortlist, a significant achievement in his blossoming career.

Lookman’s inclusion comes as no surprise, given his remarkable performances for both club and country over the past year.

According to Diaspora Digital Media, the 27-year-old winger had an outstanding season, cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s top football talents.

For Nigeria, Lookman played a pivotal role at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Côte d’Ivoire.

In seven appearances for the Super Eagles during the tournament, he scored three crucial goals and provided one assist, helping Nigeria progress through the competition.

His ability to deliver in high-pressure moments further solidified his importance to the national team.

On the club front, Lookman’s contributions were equally impressive.

The Atalanta star etched his name in the history books by scoring a stunning hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League, a feat that showcased his clinical finishing and ability to rise to the occasion.

His overall statistics this season for Atalanta are equally noteworthy.

In 18 appearances across all competitions, Lookman has registered 11 goals and five assists, underlining his consistency and importance to the team.

Lookman now finds himself in contention for the coveted CAF Men’s Player of the Year award alongside other top African players, including Simon Adingra, Serhou Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi, and Ronwen Williams.

Each of these nominees has had an impressive year, making the competition for the award particularly fierce.
