The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declared Nigeria’s Super Eagles the winners of the AFCON 2025 second leg qualifying match against Libya that was to be played in Benghazi.

Diaspora Digital Media gathered that the decision was made on Saturday afternoon.

This decision comes after a tumultuous 20-hour hostage situation at Al-Abraq Airport, where the Nigerian squad was held without adequate food or water.

*CAF’s Disciplinary Board Ruling:

– Libya has forfeited the game, with Nigeria awarded 3 points and 3 goals ² ¹ ³
– The Libya Football Federation has been fined $50,000, payable within 60 days.

The federation was found to have breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

This ruling is a significant victory for Nigeria, and it sends a strong message to other countries that disrespecting visiting teams will not be tolerated.

The Super Eagles now have 10 points, potentially securing their spot in AFCON 2025.
