Cambodia Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize Award

Cambodia has announced plans to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, following his direct role in ending a deadly border crisis with Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol confirmed the nomination on Friday, August 1, 2025, during a press briefing in Phnom Penh.
According to him, Trump called both countries’ leaders and helped broker a ceasefire within days.
Trump’s intervention came after the heaviest fighting between Cambodia and Thailand in more than a decade.
The clashes left at least 43 people dead and displaced over 300,000 residents.
Chanthol did not hesitate to express deep appreciation for Trump’s swift diplomatic action.
“He stepped in and brought peace,” he said. “Trump deserves global recognition for that.”
Following the ceasefire agreement signed in Malaysia on Monday, the White House quickly responded. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt wrote on X, Formerly Twitter.
“Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!”
This is not Trump’s first nomination. In June, Pakistan also announced plans to nominate him for his role in easing tensions with India.
Similarly, in July, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he had already submitted Trump’s name for the award.
Besides helping to restore peace in Southeast Asia, Trump also helped Cambodia avoid a major economic setback.
Earlier, the U.S. threatened to impose a 49% tariff on Cambodian goods.
However, Trump later reduced that threat to 36%, then further down to 19%, offering much-needed relief to Cambodia’s struggling garment and footwear sector.
“He saved thousands of jobs,” Chanthol said. “Trump didn’t just prevent war; he protected our economy too.”
The Nobel Peace Prize honours individuals or groups that advance global harmony and international cooperation.
Cambodia believes Trump meets this criteria.
As the Nobel Committee prepares to release its shortlist in the coming months, world leaders’ nominations like this could influence the final decision.
Cambodia now joins a growing list of countries that believe Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for peace, diplomacy, and economic fairness.
